Everything was a blur for the past week. I was still in a state of shock of Rachel's murder and how sudden it was. I still could not process that Rachel had been killed in such a heartless way. I might not have been the biggest fan of hers, but I never did or never would wish her harm in any kind of way. The killer has not been caught and I have been on edge since the murder. It is hard enough living in New York City with a lot of fear, but I could barely sleep with the killer striking again and I feared whoever it maybe they may or may not go after me next. I had dealt with crazy, toxic fans online crying about a character or ending they hated but this was much worse in person now that I'm connected to the murder just by working with Rachel. After the funeral, my friends and I had hung out at my apartment. I honestly needed the company to keep my mind off of Rachel and I was so scared to be alone.
"I still can't believe Rachel is gone." I murmured looking down at the floor with no emotion as if I were a mindless zombie. She is my shooting star. Rachel's voice echoed in my mind uninvited.
"I can't believe it either." Bree responded as she gave me a side hug.
"It is just so sudden." Jolene said in a soft whisper.
"But Rachel was a monster." Bex said.
"Bex," I responded as I looked at her with shock. "That was way too harsh even for me."
"Geez, Bex, heartless much?" Jolene snorted.
"Well..." Bex sighed. "I believe in karma, she basically treated everyone like they were garbage." Bex replied and shrugged lazily.
"Nobody deserves to die like that." Bree replied.
"Monsters do though," Bex chuckled. "They do nothing but harm people and they don't stop until they are stopped and killed."
"Maybe you should go." I mumbled and rubbed my arm awkwardly.
"You know what?" Bex sighed and I looked up back at her seeing her rub the back of her neck. "You are all right, I was way out of line, I am so sorry. Rachel did not deserve that." Bex apologized frowning at me.
"Thanks." I responded and smiled at her.
"We should talk about boys." Jolene suggested as she changed the subject.
"My dating life is basically nonexistent." I said laughing.
"Same here." Bex giggled as she nodded.
After Bree and Jolene left, Bex had helped me clean up the mess we made from eating dinner and drinking red and white wine. I thought about the texts she had sent the other night and I had decided to ask her about it.
"Hey... um Bex?" I mumbled awkwardly.
"Yeah?" Bex responded smiling at me.
"I wanted to talk to you about those texts you sent the night Rachel.... you know..." I trailed off shrugging.
"Look, I am so sorry about that." Bex quickly apologized as she raised her arms.
"What was that about?" I asked crossing my arms.
"I met this guy at school and he pretty much ditched me for this other chick and I went crazy and I," Bex started to say. "Umm... well there is no excuse for how I had acted the other night. I was being stupid, I am sorry."
"It's okay," I assured her and nodded. "Been there, done that boy drama." I laughed.
