I went to a cafe near my apartment with my laptop. I figured if I were in a public setting maybe my nerves would calm down and I may get some kind of inspiration somewhere.
"Are you the Sabrina Hart?" I heard a woman ask. I shut my laptop down and saw a woman stand in front of me and I winced, a little bit startled.
"I'm sorry," I sighed shaking my head and laughed. "Yes, I am." I answered as I gave her a smile and looked at her.
"No, no, no, I am sorry for scaring you." The woman replied. She had short, curly blond hair and bright blue eyes. She looked to be about my age or a little bit younger. She was holding a coffee mug in one hand.
"It is no biggie, don't sweat it." I giggled.
"My name is Rebecca Ray, but everyone calls me Bex." Rebecca introduced herself as she set her coffee down and offered her hand for a handshake.
"Nice to meet you Bex, I'm-- oh gosh I am so awkward, I almost said my name." I laughed more and took her hand and shook it.
"It is okay." Bex giggled and let go of my hand.
"Do you want to sit and have coffee with me?" I asked pointing at the empty chair that sat in front of me.
"Do you really mean that?" Bex gasped as if she were in shock.
"Yeah," I answered and nodded. "Please, sit down." I insisted.
"Wow," Rebecca sighed. "You are so nice and down to earth."
"I'm not nice," I responded and shook my head and laughed softly. "I am pretty brutal, mean and blunt." I laughed more.
"I seriously doubt that." Rebecca said and chuckled.
"So..." I began to say. "Tell me about yourself, Bex."
"I am eighteen, the exact same age as you when you blew up as an author and I am in school studying to be a writer, just like you." Bex responded with a wide smile on her face.
"Oh, that is great." I responded and nodded slowly. "Have you ever written any stories so far?" I asked and took a sip of my vanilla latte.
"Just fan fictions on fan fiction websites." She giggled.
"Oh," I sighed. "I did the exact same thing and that is how I--"
"Started as a writer? Yeah, I know. I read all about it in an article." Bex interrupted me and took a sip of her drink that I assumed was coffee.
"Right," I mumbled nodding awkwardly. I had felt really awkward. I knew going into this I would meet fans who would read all about me but a part of me hated it. I wished that I could meet someone who knew nothing about me, and we could get to know each other at the same time.
"Do you have a boyfriend... or do you like someone?" Bex asked and grinned.
"No," I answered and shook my head. "No guy has caught my eye yet. What about you?"
"Same," Bex answered with a lazy shrug. "No guy has caught my eye yet either."
"What do you like to write about?" I asked and raised an eyebrow.
"Romance, comedy, thrillers even." Bex chuckled.
"I like those genres." I responded.
"Are you releasing a new book yet?" Bex asked and took a sip of her drink.
"I am writing a book right now," I sighed. "My publisher, Rachel has been at my neck about writing one soon while the iron is still hot." I answered letting out a soft laugh.
"Is it another romance?" Bex asked and furrowed her eyebrows.
"I don't know quite yet." I confessed. "Writer's block."
"I get that." Bex chuckled and nodded.
"Rachel is a real pain in the butt though." I laughed.
"Do you wish you could get rid of her if you could?" Bex asked.
"All the time." I answered nodding as I laughed more.
"If only that were easy." Bex mumbled.
"Cheers to that!" I responded as I raised my latte.
"Cheers!" Bex replied and lifted her mug and let it down gently.
"So Bex, where are you from?" I asked and took a sip of my coffee.
"I was born and raised here in New York, but I know you are from West Virgnia."
"You are starting to creep me out." I laughed, half joking.
"Everyone knows at this point."
"I guess you are right." I sighed.
