Chapter 14:
'My dearest darling Lux,
We have yet to meet you my sweet! I SO look forward to seeing you in the future. Would sometime in the next month be okay?
Oh I'm SO glad. I DO look forward to our visit in Volterra.
By the way, say hello to my old friend Carlisle would you? I haven't seen him since... Well you know the story of your dear sister, darling.
Jane also says hello. She can't wait to finally meet you in the flesh, or whatever it is we have.
I can hardly wait to see you my dearest, we've gathered some questions for you. Well, do visit soon, we are all eager to meet the new addition.
Toodloo,
Aro'
I read the letter from the Volturi aloud and shuddered.
They're going to think that I'm Aria, and they're going to kill me.
What if they kill Carlisle and his family!?
MY family!
I hadn't realized that I was frozen looking at the letter until Emmett cleared his throat, causing me to jump.
"What does it say?" Emmett asked and I silently pushed the envelope in his hands. After reading, he snarled.
"Aro..." He growled and Carlisle laid a hand on his shoulder calmly.
"There's nothing we can do. We either go to them, or they come to us. Everything will work out, we just need to be patient. Besides, the last thing we need is another fight." Carlisle said with a frown and I shook my head in disbelief.
"He had to bring Bella into this?" I asked annoyed and Carlisle shrugged.
"We vampires have quite a long memory..." He simply explained, and I growled.
"What an ass." I growled and stood up, clutching the paper in anger, scared and offended by Aro's "light" tone. Even the look of his handwriting made me want to scream.
"Lux, calm down." Emmett said but I didn't open my eyes. I stood there feeling furious at the Volturi for accusing me of being someone I'm not, and then putting everyone I love in danger!
"WHOA." Carlisle and Emmett said together.
This made me snap out of it, and I opened my eyes to see the two of them staring at me in disbelief.
"What?" I asked and Emmett gestured to my hands, where I was holding my letter.
Or... Was? Holding my letter?
I gasped.
I could FEEL the smooth surface of the fancy Volturi stationary in my slender fingers, but even so my immortal eyes searched for the envelope itself, which had seemingly turned invisible.
"How...Wait, what just happened?" I asked, my breath shaky. Grins appeared on both of their faces.
"She's like Bella." Emmett said to Carlisle almost as a question.
"Possibly stronger at it, however." Carlisle said in a whisper.
I smiled and studied the invisible envelope trying to find some sort of off switch.
"Can I turn it back?" I asked, smiling down at it.
"Try." Carlisle encouraged.
I mustered up a big breath before thinking as hard as I could "change".
