Natasha had spoken to her friend Tony (Iron Man) and he agreed to let Chloe stay in the compound. Natasha stayed in the compound too, she showed her around and was always there if she needed anything. She was always there when Chloe had nightmares. That's if you could call them nightmares. They weren't some horrid fiction of her imagination, they were all memories; memories of the Red Room and Hydra. Practically every night Chloe would wake up in a cold sweat, tears down her face and shaking with fear. Each time Natasha heard her scream herself awake she was there, a shoulder to cry on, a person to vent to. Chloe appreciated that, she'd never had anything like it before.Natasha was like family for Chloe, another thing she had never really had before. Chloe had also never really had friends, which also changed when she met the other avengers. After a long list of apologies she grew especially close with Peter Aka Spider-Man.
She also grew close with Clint, Natasha's best friend. Chloe quickly saw why Natasha adored the man so much. He was funny, kind, sarcastic, but it was all hidden behind a tough exterior which made his pleasant side that more pleasant.
Chloe had been with the Avengers for about a month before Clint came to the compound from a mission with a surprise. "Guys! I brought home a stray!" The archer announced as he walked into the living room. "Good to see you after these six weeks too." Natasha mumbled.
"We're getting a dog?" Peter gasped.
"No we're not! Clint if a dog walks round that corner you can both sleep outside." Tony spoke up.Instead of a dog, a girl of about Chloe's age walked round the corner. "Oh my god it's the Avengers!" She whispered to herself (if you could even call it a whisper). "Hi everyone!" She smiled, her tone bubbly, sweet and friendly. "Sure has the energy of a dog I'll tell you that." Clint huffed, though a small smile had crept onto his face.
"Everyone this is Katie Aka Kate Bishop aka the next Hawkeye!" Clint introduced her. Chloe watched her carefully, she was pretty, she'd admit that. But was anyone really that nice? Like really? She seemed too nice. "It's nice to meet you, Kate. I'm Tony, suppose I'm your new landlord now, hand over the money." Everyone watched as Kate's face dropped and panic spread throughout her. "He's joking! I'm Natasha, nice to meet you." Nat stepped in.
Everyone quickly introduced themselves, everyone other than Chloe. "Chloe don't be rude, introduce yourself." Natasha whispered to her. Chloe sighed and turned to the black haired girl. "I'm Chloe, nice to meet you." She said, watching Kate's extended hand drop in disappointment. "Nice to meet you." She kept a bright smile on, despite Chloe's very clear rudeness.
"Chloe play nice, you'll be bumping into Kate a lot. She's having the room next to you," Tony told her off. "Kate go with Chloe, she'll show you your room." He told the new Avenger. Chloe stood up, leading Kate to the room next to hers. "My room's here, knock if you need anything. Can't guarantee I'll answer though." Chloe said shortly before going into her own room, closing the door behind her.
She put on her headphones and started blasting music. She was sat on her bed like that for about an hour before she felt a presence enter her room. She turned just before Kate could tap her on the shoulder. "You do know about knocking right?" She asked her sarcastically. "I do and I did- you didn't answer though." Kate shrugged.
"Right. What do you need them?" Chloe turned her music off and sat up."I wanted to ask you something." Kate told her. "Just did, but yeah what else?" Chloe sighed. "Why don't you like me?" Kate questioned, fiddling with her hands. Why is she so nervous? And why does she care what I think about her anyway? "Don't take it personally, I was like this with everyone when I met them. Tony told me I have 'trust issues' or something." Chloe answered truthfully. "Oh right- good- um- thank you. Bye. Sorry for bothering you." Kate stumbled over her words before quickly turning to leave. She gently closed the door behind her. At least someone in the compound knew how to close a door.
The next day was everyone's favourite day (heavy on the sarcasm there). It was training day. "Sucks your second day here is training day." Peter laughed to Kate.
"Yeah, just my luck." She agreed with a light laugh back. "Alright let's start!" Clint clapped his hands together. "We've already had warm ups so let's get to sparring," he spoke. "Kate I say you go up against...Chloe!" Clint decided."I'm sure putting you up against our young Avengers champion will be a great idea." Natasha murmured. Clint gave her a light push on the shoulder. "Starting positions...Ready...FIGHT!" Clint boomed. Kate made the first attack..yanno...like an idiot.
Chloe quickly grabbed Kate's leg, flipping her onto her back. She put her knee against the girl's stomach. Kate stared at her with wide eyes, clearly in at least a small amount of shock. She punched Chloe in the rib and then shoved her off. As Chloe stumbled up, trying to compose herself. Kate took the chance go sweep her legs. Chloe fell to the mat, Kate quickly climbing on top of her to pin her down. "5...4...3-" Clint began counting.
Chloe bucked her hips up, forcing Kate off her. She grabbed the young archer's hands and forced them down, putting a knee against her legs so she couldn't kick or jump up. "5...4...3...2...1...Chloe wins!" Clint gave the ex-assassin a pat on the back as they both stood up.
Training continued for another two hours before they were met free. "Your fighting skills are just- wow!" Kate gasped, catching up with Chloe. "Oh- thanks." She gave her an awkward smile. "How long have you been fighting for? It's got to be a while with those skills!" Kate asked. Immediately a painful memory forced itself to the forefront of Chloe's mind, the day she was first introduced to the Red Room.
"Since I was seven." She responded to Kate's question, no emotion cracking through. "Oh cool! I started when I was like..nine? Guess we're pretty similar with that then, hey? You're-" Kate began to get carried away. Chloe tried to hold her comment back but of course her smart mouth got ahead of her. "We are nothing alike." She spat, speeding up to get to her room faster. Leaving a very confused and hurt Kate behind.
