Chapter 10- Making things worse

The next couple days, Chloe barely spoke to anyone. If they were on the side of signing the Accords, Chloe ignored them. That was everyone, including her own mother. She was angry but equally as upset that Natasha wanted to sign the Accords when she had also lived so much of her life under control of others. Natasha wasn't an enhanced, Chloe guessed that's why she couldn't see how bad the Sokovian Accords actually were.

Natasha stopped by a couple times a day to check in on Chloe. To make sure she had eaten, had something to drink or just overall check in on how she was feeling. Each time Chloe refused to respond. Maybe it was immature but she was still young, what was Tony's excuse?

On the day the Accords were supposed to be signed, Chloe heard a knock at her door. "Chloe, I'm going to the Vienna now. I know you don't agree with all this and I'm sorry we're not on the same side here. I love you." Natasha spoke through the door. Chloe paused for a second. She let out a defeated sigh. "Love you too, stay safe." She called from her bed. "I will, see you later." Natasha's smile could be heard in her voice.

A few hours later, Kate had now joined Chloe in her room and they sat listening to music. Kate had insisted on showing Chloe a singer named 'Taylor Swift'. Chloe had to be honest, the music was great. There was a knock on the door and Kate paused the song. "Come in!" Chloe called. Steve stepped into the room. "Chloe, you need to come see this." He said seriously. Chloe's smile dropped and she jumped out of bed, following Cap into the living room.

He pointed at the TV. Chloe felt her heart sink, her throat slightly closing up. "A bomb hidden in a news van ripped through a UN building in Vienna. More then seventy people have been injured, at least twelve are dead, including Wakanda's king T'chaka." The news reporter spoke as the screen showed an overview shot of smoke pouring out of the building. "Officials have released a video of the suspect, who they have identified as James Buchanan Barnes; The Winter Soldier." The reporter continued as the screen switched to a video and picture of Bucky.

"No...He wouldn't. His mind control was broken, what reason would he have to do this?" Chloe demanded. Steve stayed silent. Sharon stepped forward. "I have to go to work." She spoke.

They arrived in Vienna and Steve pulled out his phone. He dialled Natasha. "Yeah?" Chloe heard Nat's voice on the other line. She leaned over to speak into the phone. "You alright?" She asked. "Yeah, i was lucky." Natasha told her. There was slight pause and Natasha seemed to realise where they were. "I know Barnes means a lot to the both of you, i really do. Stay home, you'll only make it worse, for all of us." The ex-assassin finally spoke. "Are you saying you'll arrest us?" Steve challenged. "No! Someone will, if you interfere, that's how it works now." Nat explained. Chloe clenched her fists. Just as she thought, the Accords were getting in the way of her helping someone she cared about. "If he's this far gone, Nat, I- we should be the ones to bring him in." Steve quickly corrected himself. "Why?" Nat asked. "Because we're the ones least likely to die trying." Steve said before hanging up the phone.

They both headed over to Sam and Kate. "She tell you to stay out of it?" Sam inquired. Steve and Chloe stayed silent. "She might have a point." Sam shrugged. "He'd do it for me." Steve spoke. "1945 maybe." Sam said. "I just wanna make sure we consider all our options, especially when we have two of the kids on our team." He nodded to Kate and Chloe. "I'm literally turning twenty next year." Kate retorted. "In my eyes you ain't an adult until you can drink." Sam told her.

Sharon approached the group. "Tips have been pouring in ever since that footage went public. Everyone seems to think that the Winter Soldier goes to their gym." She informed the group. "Most of it's noise, except for this." She said, sliding a folder over to Steve. "My boss expects a briefing pretty much now so that's all the head start you're going to get." Steve nodded and thanked the blonde. "And you're going to have to hurry. We have orders to shoot on sight." Sharon added before leaving. "No pressure, no pressure." Kate said to herself.
