After a very intense car chase with the masked assassin from before, and an escape through the vents, the team made it to safety. That wasn't before Yelena got a shot to the side from blocking it hitting Chloe."Who was that guy?" Natasha asked Yelena as they walked. "Dreykov's special project. He can mimic anyone he's ever seen. It's like fighting a mirror. Dreykov only deploys him for top priorities so..." Yelena sighed. "Ohhh, we're top priority. How fun." Chloe smiled sarcastically.
They arrived at a gas station to get supplies. "If the Red Room's still active, where is it?" Nat questioned. "I have no idea," Yelena admitted. "It moves location constantly. Every Widow is sedated on entry and exit for maximum security." Chloe let out a sigh. "It always has to be complicated, doesn't it?" Natasha shook her head. "I'm just finding it hard to believe how he stayed out of my radar." She spoke. Yelena looked up at her. "It's not smart to attack an Avenger if you want to stay hidden. I mean the clue is in the name. Dreykov kills you, Chloe or one of the big ones kills him." Yelena pointed out.
Natasha frowned at the blonde. "Wait- what are the big ones?"
"Well I doubt the god from space needs to take an ibuprofen after a fight." Yelena shrugged. There was a tense silence between the sisters. Chloe stood awkwardly at the door, trying occupy herself with grabbing more supplies."Where did you think i was all this time?" Yelena asked her sister out of the blue. "I thought that you got out and were living a normal life." Natasha told her, not meeting the younger woman's eyes. "And you never made contact again?" Yelena challenged. "I thought you didn't want to see me." Natasha shrugged. Yelena simply rolled her eyes. "Bullshit." She cursed under her breath. "You just didn't want your baby sister to tag along while you saved the world with the big kids."
"You, aren't really my sister." Natasha replied coldly. Chloe glared at her, giving her a nudge with her elbow. Natasha frowned at her and then turned back to Yelena. "And the Avengers aren't truly your family. Other than Chloe, I'm guessing you have all the papers and such." Yelena shot back. Natasha stayed quiet.
"Why do you always do that thing?" Yelena spoke up again. "What thing?" Nat asked, her tone bored. "That thing you do when you're fighting." Yelena said. Natasha gave her a confused look but it clicked for Chloe. "The pose thing?" She checked with her aunt. Yelena nodded. "What pose thing?" Nat looked at them both, her curiosity increasing.
Yelena imitated the pose Natasha did whenever he landed in a fight. "This thing you do when you fight- you whip your hair back- with the arm and the hair-" She tried to explain. "It's a pose. You're a total poser." She laughed, standing back up. "I'm not a poser." Natasha denied, a smile creeping onto her face. "Awh, come on. They're awesome poses but it does look like you think everyone's always looking at you." Lena said. "All that time I spent 'posing', i was actually trying to do something good. To make up for all the pain and suffering that we caused. Try to be more than just a trained killer." Nat defended herself.
"Well, then you were fooling yourself. Because pain and suffering is everyday and we are both- actually all three of us, are still trained killers." Yelena said. Chloe put her hands up in defence. "Damn, why did i get brought into this?" She mumbled. "Well, I'm not the one on the cover of a magazine. I'm not the killer that little girls call their heroes." With that, Yelena left the store. "That was rude." Chloe shook her head. "Go catch up with her, I'll be right there." Natasha told her daughter with a sigh. Chloe nodded and picked up a light jog to catch up with her aunt.
"Sorry about the whole um...having to get your own way out the Red Room. If I knew the Red Room was still active and I had an aunt trapped there the entire time, I would've at least tried to help." She told the blonde. She took a moment to think before responding. "How didn't you know the Red Room was still active. You worked for them, right?" "Yeah but most of my training after I became a Widow was spent in Hydra. I didn't really get postcards with updates." Chloe shrugged. "Either way, don't worry. Natasha should've been the one to try save me, we're kind of sisters." Lena sighed bitterly. "She truly believed she defeated the Red Room though. She talked about you constantly too, she wanted to reach out, just never felt like you'd want anything to do with her apparently." Chloe informed the Widow assassin. Yelena just nodded and took a seat.
It had started to get dark and the older assassins ordered beers while Chloe drank water since she still had a year to go before she turned twenty one. While Natasha was turned away kicking a ball back to a group of kids, Yelena let Chloe have a sip of her beer. Chloe scrunched her face in disgust. "You alright there?" Her mother asked. "Yep, a leaf just got into my drink is all." Chloe lied. Yelena stifled a laugh.
The conversation didn't stay light and happy for too long. "That gas. The counter-agent. It was synthesised in secret by an older Widow, one from Melina's generation." Yelena started. "Who's Melina?" Chloe cut in. "Your grandmother." Natasha told her. Chloe gave a small nod. "I was on the mission to retrieve it and she exposed me. I...killed the Widow that freed me." Yelena looked down at her hands. "Did you have a choice?" Natasha asked.
"What you both went through was psychological conditioning. I'm talking about chemically altering brain functions. They are two completely different things. You're fully conscious but you don't know which part is you." Yelena explained. "I'm still not sure." She admitted. Chloe frowned at her aunt. What she was saying reminded her a lot of Bucky.
"Did either of you look for your parents? your real ones." Yelena asked the two sat in front of her. "Well my mother abandoned me so..." Natasha shrugged. "Never really thought about it much. Don't think I really need them now, anyways. Like I'd be happy to see the people who gave me way if I did see them again." Chloe scoffed. Yelena gave a nod of understanding. "I never actually thought I'd get a niece. My thoughts were mainly on getting a dog." Yelena said. Chloe let out a light laugh. "Well you got pretty lucky with this sarcastic little badass." Natasha grinned. She pulled Chloe into a side hug and ruffled her hair. "Mummmm." Chloe whined, trying to flatten out her hair again. Yelena watched the interaction with a wide smile.
"You two wanna go on a family trip?" Natasha asked. "Family trip to wheree?" Chloe asked suspiciously. "To take down the Red Room." Natasha told her. Yelena gave her a small smile. "Fuck it."
Chloe sat in the back seat of the car, twirling her rings in between her fingers. "You know this is the first piece of clothing I've ever bought for myself." Yelena said, showing off her green vest. "That? Is it like errr- an army surplus orrr.." Natasha trailed off. "Okay! It has a lot of pockets." Yelena groaned at her sister's teasing. "I use them all the time and i made some of my own modifications -" Yelena gave up halfway through her sentence with a huff.
"It's cool, I love it." Chloe told her. "You are by far my favourite niece!" Yelena turned to her. "I would hope so." Chloe laughed. Natasha laughed with her.
"The point is; i've never had control of my own life before and now i do. I want to do things!" Lena carried on, turning back to Nat. Chloe smiled, subconsciously nodding in agreement. That was exactly how she had felt when she first got saved from Hydra. "I like your vest." Natasha finally gave in. "I knew you did! it's so cool, right? And you can put so much stuff in there, you wouldn't even know!" Yelena ranted happily.
"I really don't know where the Red Room is though, I'm sorry." Lena apologised. "I know," Natasha nodded. "But I think I know someone who does."
