Y/n's pov

Arriving at the great hall, Edmund and I went our separate ways.
I joined Eden and Viktor at the table. "You missed the announcement!"
Eden whispered.
I looked at her in confusion,
"The Omen Trial names are to be announced!" Viktor added.
"What are The Omen—" The Twins shushed me, Viktor petting my face harshly with his palm, making me cringe with disgust.

"Evers and Nevers! The people I call will join my side and I will give them each a scroll. Written on said scrolls, will be the tasks they need to prepare for . . . The final task will not be known by anyone but Headmistress Agatha and I." Headmistress Sophie projected.

She started calling up the contestants,
"Evie Quinn, Hattie Hatter,
Henry Sudayev, Rowan Bjorgman,
Yue Shang-Hua Jun,
Imogene DunBroch, Darla Iridess, Margaret Porter, Silvia Mae,
and Pedro Ladrón!"
I watched as the group of teens walked up on stage, most from different social groups.

"You ten will be put in three or four challenges, the third or fourth will seal your fate. I would like to thank you all for listening, but I'm afraid we must leave to discuss the details of these challenges."
She finished her announcement and took the group of kids to a more private area to discuss details. Eden wrapped her arm around my shoulders,
"Not as many people as last time."
She said almost disappointed, slouching her shoulders.
"Who cares? Let's eat, I'm starving!" Viktor spoke.

'He clearly doesn't care for anything when food is around...' I thought,
staring at the door Sophie led the contestants through.
Abruptly, Headmistress Agatha rushed towards the lecture table and slammed her hands on either side of it's ends. "Y/n L/n," she yells, "I need Y/n L/n, she has been chosen to be put in the Omen Trials by an anonymous selector." I froze.

'What? WHO would've done such a thing?' My head pulsed and my heart pounded, turning my fingers numb. My legs were weak and I felt as if everyone was staring at me.
Eden dropped her fork, mouth agape while Viktor gave me a look that screamed, 'go up there!' but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
'Why should I? I'm only fifteen! Could I really be evil?"

Viktor shoved me, forcing me to stand. I didn't realize I could stand on these wobbly legs.
I walked swiftly to the dark woman, walking this fast was the only way I could prevent my legs from collapsing. Her eyes were wide and frantic.
She grabbed my wrist and practically ran with me to the closed off room holding the other contestants.

The door slammed behind us and the group turned to look at us,
"Y/n?" Evie questioned my presence.
Rowan looked at me with flirtatious eyes and Hattie giggled. I mentally cringed at Rowan, something was just off about him.
Agatha walked up to her coworker,
"We missed one, Sophie. This is Y/n L/n, the prophecy holder.
She was chosen anonymously by—" she paused, her eyes drifted to the teens around her.
She lowered her voice, whispering a mysterious name.

Agatha then raised her hands to float
the extra scroll in Sophie's pocket towards me. I grabbed it from the
grasping air.
"Alright. Now that we've got all the contestants here, we may discuss the challenges. Before I discuss of it, it's important that you do not tell anyone what you are being told now.
Firstly, you will be in a hand-to-hand combat tournament.
This will test your strategy, it will show if you fight dirty, or fight heroically " Sophie spoke, her chin lifted high in the air, she looked regal.

Agatha chimed, "The second challenge, you will be put in the forest a mile away from the gate. You will be paired in groups of two, the good will have better luck with escaping."
The two looked at eachother, "Now...we cannot tell you the very last
challenge, but the third is archery.
If you miss the target, you either aren't skilled in arrow shooting, or you are evil. And if you manage to hit the target, you will not be participating in the fourth challenge, meaning your title will be good."

Sophie's gaze upon the group of children became gloomy.
"The scrolls go into deep detail on what your first task is about, and each has a clue on what the final challenge is," Sophie spoke, turning her gaze to the floor, she continued,
"You will gain a scroll after completing each challenge . . . The other scrolls will also have clues."
Agatha placed a hand on Sophie's shoulder, she then said,
"We will not be answering questions right now. Unfortunately, we have a meeting to attend in just a few minutes." Agatha gave us her best smile on behalf of both her and Sophie, letting us leave the candle-lit room.

As I walked out, I made eye contact with Edmund.
The table he chose to sit at was closest to the room the contestants and I had just left.
A slight shove pressed at my shoulder. I turned, watching as Evie brushed passed me.
Her lips gave a small smirk that looked more warm and comforting rather than her usual smug smirk.

I smiled back and headed toward my seat. "How was it?" Connie questioned. I smiled slightly, "I'm not allowed to tell you guys anything."
Viktor and Eden groaned,
Marie sighed, and Connie's grin grew at her friends' curiosity.
Suddenly, the bell rang, signifying the end of breakfast.
I walked with Eden to our class.
"So." The girl spoke.
"Yes, Eden?" I smiled, turning my head to her.
"What's the first trial?"

"I don't know. Why don't you try to guess?" I replied, chuckling at her antics. The walk to our class was quite long, meaning Eden would attempt to pry at me the whole way there.
"Is it dragon fighting?" I looked at her, raising my brow. "How about jousting? Spell-making, maybe?"
I listened as she kept naming off activities, none of which were actually correct.
Although, it made me wonder what the last trial could be.
And why it was a secret . . .
