Eden's pov
I ran.
Y/n is awake and I ran to find Edmund. Should I have stayed with her and listened to her questions? Yes. Did I leave her clueless? Yes.
My footsteps felt heavy as I ran through the dormitory hall.
I should be by her side; I should have stayed back, listened to her questions and answered them. But my mind went back to him as I listened to her hoarse voice fill my ears with her thoughts.
I've never seen her so concerned.
I finally arrived at his dormitory and rapped on the door vigorously.
The door opened to reveal a sleepy Edwin. My face flushed red.
"Edwin! Hey, I need to come in." He rubbed his eyes before waving me inside."Edmund! Get up!" I rushed towards his bed and pulled off his covers, hitting him with a pillow I got from Remus' newly-made bed.
He and Remus glared at me.
Remus stole back his pillow.
"For Aslan's sake! What do you want, Eden!" I brushed his attitude off and replied, "She's awake!"
Edmund's eyes widened and he jumped out of bed.Grabbing his jumper, he ran out of the dormitory. I could tell he was enveloped with cingulomania.
He wanted to hold Y/n no matter what.———————————————————
Y/n's pov
I feel so weak.
The nurse is filling me in on what happened, but I'm not sure what she's talking about.
'I've been unconscious for three days?' I interrupted her, "Is Pedro and Henry all right?" The nurse stiffened.
She sighed and said, "I'm sorry.
They didn't survive...They died to save you, Dear."My mind went numb.
I couldn't breathe as I felt myself go pale. Then a sudden memory came back to me. A flash of Pedro's beaten face, his blood and flesh strewn in ways that made me sick.
Not only did Rowan kill Pedro,
he also destroyed him.
He took his smile,
his content eyes.I rushed out of the hospital bed and found myself hunched over a toilet.
I retched up the water I had drank from when I woke up, along with unknown mush that was in the pouches on my IV stand.I cried for Pedro.
His pure heart will never be known.
I cried for Henry.
However way he died was courageous, I just knew.
He overcame his cowardliness when he saved me.
No one will see how misunderstood he was.I dug my nails into my knees that sat against my chest.
I couldn't move; I wouldn't.
"Y/n?" I heard Edmund knock on the bathroom door. "Come in." My voice was quiet, hoarse.
He opened the door and frowned at the state I was in. He crouched down in front of me, moving my hands off my knees carefully.Bloody marks remained from how deep I clawed into them.
"Hey...It's gonna be okay, Y/n."
He was gentle. I could tell he was trying not to hug me. If he does, I don't know what will happen.
"It's not, Ed. They're gone. They died saving me and I was the only one that knew they were good people."His hands squeezed mine and he sighed. "That's not true. Marie knew Henry was good. And now, everyone knows they died heroes." I sniffled as he wiped my tears.
"But, they didn't deserve this, and I know you agree. I just, really wanted them to experience happy lives,"
I smiled sadly, thinking fondly of the two boys, "Pedro would've had friends to spend time with, and Henry would've faced all of his fears with his family. The people he loved most."Edmund helped me up and hugged me. My breath hitched before I burst into more tears. "They had you. You saved them, Y/n. They just returned the favor." I pulled away from the hug to look up at him, holding his forearms for support as he continued, "You gave them a chance they were never given. They proved to be great people and that's all that matters. They lived because of you, and they died for you to live on for them."
My vision was blurry as I finally understood what he was saying.
'Did I really help them?'
I swallowed hard and said, "You're right." I walked with Edmund, wiping away the last of my tears.I bid the kind nurse adieu and together we walked the halls.
I still felt numb and kept quiet while we walked. My replies were kept short as my aching heart reached up and choked me. "Ed?" I held my hand to my heart and came to a stop.
"Are you okay?" His face had that look again. He couldn't help but show how worried he was."I just need to take a moment to breathe." It feels like something is sitting on my chest. I leaned against a window sill. 'My heart is still heavy, that's all.' Although, I knew it wasn't that, I was going to have a panic attack. I kept my breaths long and deep. If I made the smallest breathing mistake it will get worse.
I'm scared of how my friends will treat me when I arrive at my dorm.
I just can't process everything yet. Another memory popped into my head. Henry running from a bear with my bow and arrows. The bear clawed into his back. The gashes were too vivid for me to handle. It made me dizzy and my breathing became short, quick. I looked to Edmund for comfort, only to realize he was already holding onto me.
"I'm sorry." I whispered, hugging him. "Don't worry about it."•••
My friends gave pure sympathy to me. They didn't look at me with pity. They're my wallflowers.
Marie surprised me the most, she was the first to show me affection.
Marie told me how she knew someone would see Henry how she did eventually, and how happy she was that it was one of her close friends. Now, a week had passed, and it was time for the last trial. I held the third scroll I received tightly in my fist.
I stood in the fields with the other contestants. Everyone else except a few guards sat on the bleachers.
We were in a row across from our targets. The guards handed us our bows one by one. Then, they stood behind us, letting Agatha make her announcement."My fierce contestants, before you start shooting arrows, I would like to announce that the fourth trial has been called off. This last trial will end The Omen Trials for this year."
The audience gasped and exchanged whispers, "Let the last trial begin!" Sophie exclaimed. The scroll said we were to only shoot three enchanted arrows. 'at least one has to be a bullseye for you to be pure of heart. A hero or heroine.'
I cited the words over and over again in my mind. The knight behind me handed me an arrow. Taking a deep breath, I grabbed the arrow and aligning it with my bow.I took another deep breath, letting go of the arrow after fully exhaling.
I watched as it hit the top edge of the target and shook my head.
I received my second arrow and repeated my technique, aiming a little lower than before. This time it hit the magpie of the target. I looked around at the other contestants. Imogene had bullseye, along with Darla and Margaret. 'How...' I held my side, where she shot me in the past, and watched as Agatha and Sophie watched her in amusement.
I swallowed and swiftly grabbed my last arrow.
'That smug, little bitch can die in hell!'
I shot blindly and hit the target stand instead the target. I was furious. "Margaret is not a hero!" Before I could realize I said it aloud, I blacked out.1313 words
