Y/n's pov

I walked home after spending time with Lucy. I reached the door and twisted the knob.
"Mum, I'm back!" I called.
Eleanor ran out from the kitchen and towards me.

Should I even be calling her mother? Well, she did take care of me...

"My, look how soaked you are! You must be half frozen to death!"
She brought me over to the living room, sat me down,
and started a fire in the fireplace.
I watched as she placed logs of wood into the fireplace and ripped today's newspaper to put in between the logs.

She lit the paper with a match and the fire began to grow.
"Thank you." I said, not daring to speak anymore.
"Dear, you've started to worry me," She paused before continuing,
"First, you've stopped sleeping and keep talking to the wind, and now you've been going out in the cold wearing slippers and a nightgown!
Y/n, you have to get a hold of yourself or I'm afraid, you'll end up too far gone."

I looked down, I was ashamed of myself.
I forgot about her worries and put the stupidest things above them.
"I'm sorry, mother. I'll try harder." I promised.

She sighed and gave me a tight hug. "Alright dear. Oh! Why don't I make you some potato soup?"
I smiled at the thought of my mother's famous potato soup,
"That'd be lovely, mum."
The whole-heartedly tone in my voice gave me a shock,
but it was well on worth it after seeing that smile on mum's face.

I decided that even if she wasn't my biological mother,
she had still raised and cared for me. Therefore, she was still my maternal figure, and I would love her for eternity for her good deeds and especially for her beautiful smile.

Dinner went by quickly,
and I found myself sitting by the fire.
I watched the flames dance,
thinking of fawns dancing in it,
what Lucy had seen in Narnian flames when listening to Mr.Tumnus play his lullaby's.

I glanced out the window beside me, the sun was fading behind the mountains.
I took that as a sign for bed,
although the sun goes down quite early in winter.

I walked up the stairs, craving the smell of fresh snow,
but I set aside my thoughts and got ready for bed.
I slipped out of my dirty nightgown that smelt of smoke and snow, and grabbed fresh clothes.
I stepped into my bathroom and got in the large bathtub.
My bathroom was pretty large for a ragged home.
It had a shower and a claw-foot bathtub, it was very useful for stressfully calm times.
As I bathed in the warm water,
I felt my eyes becoming heavy.

How long have I been in here?
Wasn't this water hot before?
I'm not ready to get out yet...

My temples began to throb and the candles that lit the bathroom were slowly dying out,
as if inviting my peaceful slumber.

I woke up, shivering in a confused shock.

Oh.

My eyes glanced at my surroundings, realizing I had fallen asleep in the bath. I got up out of the now cold water and dried myself off.
I grabbed my clean nightgown and switched it out with warmer clothes. Rushing to put them on, I discovered a piece of paper on my bed.

I picked it up, it read,
'It's dangerous to fall asleep in the bath.
I tried to wake you, but you wouldn't budge. Anyways, meet me at the café? -Your friend, Lucy'

My eyes widened,
but once I realized it was from Lucy I became a bit more comfortable.
I flipped the paper over to see more writing,
'P.S. I covered my eyes, so don't worry.
I only saw your face once I knew you were in the bath.'

I let out a small laugh and grabbed my shoes and coat.
I knocked on my mother's bedroom door and said,
"Mom, I'm going to meet up with Lucy!"
I heard heavy footsteps hit the floor.

She opened her door and said groggily, "Alright, dear. Want me to make some breakfast before you go?" She smiled at me.

Oh, how her sweet smile makes me so sad nowadays...

"No thanks, we're going out to the café." I smiled back and headed downstairs,
leaving my warm home.
Before I walked down the path, I heard one of the windows open.
I turned to see my mum poking her through the kitchen window. She yelled,
"Goodbye! I love you!"

I laughed, before replying, "Bye, mum! See you later!" I waved to her and continued my mission.
I looked at my gray surroundings,
How I missed the lively flowers and the beautiful blue sky,
but the only color I could see anymore was Lucy's blue pitiful eyes.

I knew how bad she felt for me.
I tried to ignore it, but even when we have fun together,
I see that small gray glint of remorse in her eyes.

I missed how it was before,
but I've ruined all of our lives.

I sighed, heading towards the train station. My head hung low and the last light of passion started to drift from my eyes.
