Chapter 64

Can could see the day was taking its toll on everyone, Sanem looked exhausted and, well, Emre looked like he was about to lose his mind.

"I think we should all go home and try to get some rest." stated Can.

"I believe I am going to stay at Baba's house so that if someone is needed, I am close by." answered Emre. Leyla stood and took his hand.

"That is a great idea." said Can as he picked up his phone and keys "Call me if anything happens." He turned toward Sanem and held out his hand "Come on, let's at least try to get some rest. I have the feeling tomorrow is going to be extremely stressful."

They all walked out of the office together, when they got to the car park, Can turned to Emre.

"I am seriously if you hear anything let me know immediately."

Emre nodded his head and got into his car. Can sit down in the driver's seat and sat there staring out the window.

"Can, are you ok?" Sanem asked.

"I am worried. Worried how this will affect everyone." he answered "Emre has just found out about Julien being his father about his stepbrother and sister and now this. I am disgusted by what people are capable of doing to get what they want."

Sanem placed her hand on Can's and he wrapped his fingers around hers. "Can, I am sorry that so many people have caused you and Emre so much pain." 

He looked over at her with a sad smile, tomorrow was going to be heart breaking.

We were woken by the sound of Can's phone ringing; I looked over at the clock on the nightstand. Who could be calling at 3 in the morning.

"Hello." 

"Can" I could hear the anguish in Emre's voice through the phone.

"Emre, what is going on?" he asked.

"Arielle and Julien both have been arrested." he answered.

"Both!" Can asked.

"Evet! I am getting dressed to go the police station now." Emre replied.

"What about Leyla?" I asked Can.

"Leyla, where is Leyla?"

"She is still asleep; I didn't want to disturb her since it has been a long night." he sighed "I am leaving her a note so she will know when she wakes up."

"Alright, I will meet you at the station, let her know that Sanem will pick her up in the morning." Can looked at me as I nodded yes in agreement. Both men hung up.

"You heard?" Can said.

"Evet, why did they arrest both? Do you think Julien lied to us again?"

"I don't know Sanem, but Emre sounded devasted. I will call you when I know more." he kissed me on the cheek as he rose to go get dressed.

I was about to drift off to sleep when I felt a change in the weight on the mattress. Can was leaning over to kiss me "When you are ready, please, bring Leyla to the station. I believe Emre is going to need her beside him." I nodded my head yes and watched as the man I loved walked out the door with weight of the world on his shoulders.

Knowing I would not get back to sleep, I quickly showered and then went to make tea. Around 7, I finally called Leyla, when she answered she sounded as if she was still asleep, lucky girl.

"Sanem?" she answered the phone.

"Sorry it is so early Abla but I told Emre I would call you."

"Emre" I could hear her turning in bed and picking up the note "Oh, my!"

"Get ready and I will pick you up in an hour, ok."

"Sanem, what is going on?"

"All I know is that they arrested both Julien and Arielle. Emre called Can last night, um, this morning and they met at the police station."

"I will be ready." Leyla replied and hung up the phone. 

When Can arrived at the station, he found a worried Emre pacing back and forth. Emre explained what he knew, and they both sat down to wait to hear more.

Around 830, Sanem and Leyla arrived, both women walking up to their husbands and hugging as if they were afraid to let go. Around 9, Pierre and Paulina walked in. They waited until nearly 10 when the Lieutenant finally motioned for them to follow him into his office. When they were all seated, he closed the door and sat down at his desk.

Shaking his head, he placed his hands on his desk "I am sorry you all had to wait so long but I wanted to speak with the prosecutor's office before I said anything." They all just sit there and nodded.

He cleared his throat and started speaking "Mr. Babineaux, is being arrested for falsification of records, bribing an official, blackmail, and if I could add for just being plain stupid, I would." He paused "He states his feelings for Sanem overwhelmed him. He had asked Huma to help him get you to break up and she had agreed but suddenly had a change of mind. He sent the notes, hoping that if Sanem felt Can's life was in danger she would leave him." he stopped again "It seems he really had no idea what your aunt was up to. And apparently neither did Senor Fabri, he knew your aunt from college, and they had met again around a year ago." He paused here "It seems though Aylin on the other hand was more than willing to help your aunt because her hate for the Divit family is as strong as your aunt's."

"Does that woman never stop!" exclaimed Leyla. Emre held her hand and gave it a squeeze.

The Lieutenant gave a small smile and continued "Well, I guess she finally has because she has turned state's evidence to keep from going to jail.  She gave us information that allowed us to arrest Ms. Arquette, aka, Emelie Dubois."

Paulina and Pierre sat in stunned silence. "Once we told your aunt we had all the evidence we needed she gave us her statement, which was almost exactly what Aylin told us, among other information."

Paulina leaned forward "Exactly what is our aunt being arrested for?"

"Among other things, embezzlement, fraud, falsification of legal documents, bribery and blackmail." he paused, looked directly at Pierre and Paulina "And murder."

"What!" everyone yelled at once.

Can spoke first "Murder! Who is she being accused of murdering?" he asked knowing in his heart what the answer was going to be."

"Ms. Arquette admitted to killing her sister." he answered.

There was complete silence, no one move, said a word or seemed to even breath. Until finally Paulina cried out softly "Why?"

"It seems your aunt could not get over her feelings for your father. The affair they had was before he married your mother, but your mother was the one he loved, always loved. It seems your aunt came onto him while he was in a drunken state and they had a sexual relationship, they had been continued this relationship until the day he met your mother, he then broke up with your aunt and started dating your mother, who had no idea about the two. It seems after they agreed to marry, your grandfather insisted that your father sign an agreement that he would not receive any of your mother's money unless he agreed."  He paused and took a sip of his cold coffee "Your aunt went away heartbroken, then while she was visiting your mother found out about his affair with Huma and the love child they had. She was so upset she told your mother about her affair with your father, she even lied and told your mother the affair had continued after the marriage. That was the reason your mother was adamant that her will continued as her farther requested."
