CHAPTER 32

Breathe in, breathe out

Amber

The strong feeling of deja vu led me to wake up in yet another strange bed, only this one had very soft sheets and perfectly fluffed-out pillows, I practically forced myself to move as I walked away from the bed and went to the door leading to what I supposed was outside, the Viatto's garden was in its full glory and I yet again amazed at just how lovely this house was, however, the place was somehow too quiet; the absent jingle of the windcatcher and the buzz of the small little fairies was enough to give me chills that let me know that something was definitely off.

I tried to shake off the chills in my spine by walking around, but I could not get rid of them, so my second option was to distract myself with food. I would have been able to not notice the fetal-positioned Lynx if I hadn't jumped as she breathed very quietly right next to me. With a mascara-stained face and shirt, a tangled nest of fuchsia hair, and a trembling body, Lynx was nowhere near the confident and vain girl I knew, with a very slow movement I moved some hair out of her face and placed a pillow where head laid, surprisingly she just let me do it; there was no snarky comment or resistance, just her slow-paced breaths and trembling body.

I was no idiot and connected the dots of why Lynx was acting the way she was, if my inference was correct she was panicking about hurting her dad and went into a panic attack, her dirt-stained clothes led me to believe that she had a meltdown outside and then had a panic attack in the couch. My little sister often had panic attacks so I was no stranger to this situation, with short sentences I eased her back to calm and let her know that it was going to be alright, she barely answered me, but eventually, she managed to look up and talk longer and more coherent sentences that assured me that she was alright.

Mr. Winchester's unconscious body was sprawled out on his king-sized bed, with the small nursery skills I had picked up from my doctor's parents I managed to say for certain that he was alive and his heart was steady, although the lack of knowledge of angels made me doubt myself a tad too much. However, this was enough to appease Lynx that her dad was definitely not far gone. The lack of resistance of Lynx to cuddle with her gave me a strange happiness that I completely ignored, even when it became even stronger when she wrapped her arms around me and then immediately fell asleep, eventually, I fell asleep too.

Since Lync was somewhat more herself I decided to bring up the upsetting topic of what we were going to do with Lucca, because he seemed to not be waking up any time soon.

Amber: I believe we should discuss that.

Lynx: You can go, Amber, I'll stay with my father until he wakes up

Amber: Are you sure about that?wasn't there a rule that...

cutting me off Lynx said: It doesn't matter, just..just go

With a surprising amount of determination I said: "Not without you, there is no way you are staying alone in this empty house, if I know something about you it is that you do not cope well with loneliness".

Lynx: "You know nothing about me Amber, whatever you think you know is probably a lie of mine", she said almost angry

Because I was a stubborn girl and someone who never gave up there was no way I was letting Lynx slip away from me again.

Amber: I know little, yes, but that does not make me think that you should not come with me to my grandma's, actually graduate school and spend more time with me so I can actually know you.

My speech was convincing enough for me, but I wasn't sure that it was enough for Lynx, although, she did surprise me.

Lynx: Well, if you insist, why should a girl refuse that, we could visit from time to time and call a friend of my father's to keep him company as well, she said as she gave a half smile.

Lynx:

My phone rang for a few seconds until the soft and melodious voice of Juliette Draven answered the phone, being a long-time friend of my father's I trusted her the most to give him the best company ever. Her deceased husband had been a friend of my dad's, or so he had told me; as we organized her arrival at the house and I neverendingly thanked her for her help. The very next day; she arrived in the Viatto state with a huge smile and a warm hug that also included her white wings wrapping around me and a whole lot of cooing at how much I had grown, she had not seen me for a solid 4 years and that was enough to ask just about everything about my life. Juliette walked us to the very end of the gate as she waved us goodbye with a huge reassuring smile that convinced me that my father was going to be alright in her company.
