CHAPTER 30

Amber

The moment I opened those doors I was expecting a castle-like ballroom that was so incredibly amazing, however, what I was seeing was just an everyday common kitchen, of course, an extremely big fancy one at that. The second thing that caught my attention was the blue-haired man with gigantic white wings blocking my view from whoever was behind him. What felt like the longest minute of my life ended with the double doors behind me closing behind me, the bird man looked me right in the eyes.

Lucca, the bird man mentioned beforehand explained how he nursed me back to life after drinking the poisoned tea, the symbols in my stomach were going to be permanent but would become less and less visible over time. He didn't say it exactly but judging by the gigantic feathered wings coming from his back and the otherworldly aura that practically screamed he was an angel, a rather odd one that is. Lucca had the same mannerisms and sass as his daughter, who happened to be none other than Lynx; that made a lot of sense honestly. The blue-haired man explained that because I was thought to be dead to appear again at my front door would do more damage than good. I protested against the forced decision but the glint in Lucca's eyes told me that the decision was not for me to take at any moment. Basically, I would have to be stuck in the house and finish school that way, however, I could go to school again but change my identity. I liked none of the options, I mean who would want either to require me to abandon my family I was not about to do just that.

Lynx:

The smell of the coconut candles was as strong as it could be as the pink bath bomb was dissolving into the filled bathtub and turning the water pink, I closed my eyes as the warm water calmed my nerves and made me forget my cowardly getaway wich was something that I was not going to deal with until my self-care session was over.

I was on my way to my father's room to discuss what was going to happen with Amber when I spotted a glimpse of brunette hair running through the garden, I was about to turn back towards my original destination when the creaking of the central gate opening made me change my mind and move towards the front of the house. Amber was just about to walk outside when I grabbed her arm and pulled her into the house. The main gates were shut with a flick of my hand as I dragged the pissed-off Amber into the inside of the house to stop whatever escape she was planning to do.

There was a long, awkward moment of silence that was broken by Amber who decided to finally talk to me:

Amber: Are you gonna keep staring at me or are you talking, because if you don't plan to do that I am going to leave

Lynx: It would be wonderful if you explained why you were leaving the house.

Amber: That is not your business at all, now if you excuse me I am going back to the room I was forcefully assigned to stay in.

With a snap of my fingers, Amber was forcefully made to sit back on the couch as I simply crossed my legs to adapt to a more comfortable position.

Lynx: I quite disagree dear, now will you talk or do I have to force you to do so?

Amber: Don't even bother, I was just trying to get back to my family which is mourning my fake death. I don't even get why it is such a big deal; it's not like I am gonna snitch on any of you.

Lynx: Do you know that there is a grave with your name engraved on it with a matching coffin to go with it? , you see as much as I and my father would like to give you back to your family there is a very strict rule that forbids any supernatural or magic interference to reach the human world, and you, well you have my father's magic in you permanently so I'm afraid my hands are tied here.

Amber: What do you mean magic, Lucca only told me these symbols were to heal me and that they are just that. Is there more to it?

Lynx: Those symbols you have on your stomach are healing yes, but just doing them with nothing potent would not have healed you at all; for those runes to be that powerful the angel must use their own blood and energy to draw the runes, which is basically transferring a part of their magic onto you. When I made that potion it was supposed to be lethal but apparently all it did was cause a coma and simulate death, you should not have drank that Amber and I am truly sorry for my actions that led you to this.

Amber: What I don't get is why you even though of doing such a thing to get my attention, poisoning the tea to kill and already sick guy was a low blow Lynx do not even think I will ever forgive you.

Amber had tears in her eyes and I felt even worse about what I had to tell her, because it was going to make her hate me even more.

Lynx: Amber, Jack's sickness was not a natural thing , I did give him a few doses of the same potion to weaken him and trigger his family's medical condition, truly my only intention was to harm him and not you, only Jack not you.

I proceeded to leave the room and run towards whatever would bring me any comfort from the guilt that was filling me up,without even realizing it I had opened the heavy bronze doors that led to my father's room.
