I stare out the plane window over the city of Brisbane. It looks beautiful, but any city looks beautiful when viewing it out of a small window. The plane's wings dip and sharply turn to approach the airport.
Why am I heading to Brisbane, you ask?
Well, it started after I met that mystery girl, Alicia. Weird stuff started to happen, like bus drivers not stopping for me and people viewing me with disdain and me. It all came together when I was expelled from my school. Dad kicked up a fuss demanding to know the reason, but the school didn't give a straight answer. We tried applying to other schools around the city, but none of them would accept me. We had to look out of town. Luckily the problem didn't follow me across the country because one of the first schools to accept me was in Brisbane. So why Brisbane and not somewhere closer like Sydney? Well, I have family here which I'll be staying at.
Ah, that's enough exposition. We're about to land. As the plane lands, I bounce in my seat while we roll down the tarmac. The plane roll to a stop at the terminal, and I get out of my seat and grab a backpack from the overhead storage. The plane's back door opens, and since I'm at the very back, I'm the first to get off. Despite it being Autumn, I'm stung in the face by the searing heat. If this was still Canberra, this would be considered summer. The only thing that makes this bearable is the gust of wind blowing in my face constantly. I quickly descend the stairs and across the tarmac to get inside the terminal.
Once inside, I try to navigate my way to the baggage pick-up area, but there are so many people around. I do my best to avoid them all, but... wait, that girl who just walked past me. Is that a Magical Girl? There's a girl with blue hair talking to a girl with red hair. The one with blue hair has a ring that looks almost exactly like mine, except it's blue. I almost want to go ask her if she is one and maybe even exchange stories and stuff. I don't do that, of course. That would be weird if some random girl suddenly walked up to you and started asking if you were a Magical Girl and such.
I ignore her and walk on to the baggage area. The area is a big, long hall with many conveyor belts. I spot a familiar face as I'm looking for the belt that my bag will come in.
"Nanna!" I say and wave at her. As soon as she spots me, she smiles ear to ear and waves back. Nanna Dawn always feels like the most innocent person in the world. I hug her, and we go together to grab my bag.
It's been about two weeks now, and I'm happy to say things are back to normal. People no longer look at me with disgust. Instead, I'm just a stranger to them. I've also started school again. To be honest, if you asked me if I still missed home, I would say yes. As nice as Nanna Dawn and Poppy Nick are, I liked living at home. It feels weird to wake up and not be in my own bed. Anyway, today I'm going witch hunting for the first time I've been in Brisbane. I haven't been out since I arrived here since I wanted to get into a routine. Now, I finally go to school. Yay, but also, no. I mean, it's good actually to go out and do stuff, I've been getting pretty bored recently, but does it really have to be school?
Nana and Poppy don't have a lot going on, so they're happy to drive me in every morning, which means that I get to stay home longer. I grab my bag from my desk chair and walk through the house until I get to the front door. Outside in the driveway, Nanna Dawn is sitting in her car. I get into the front passenger seat, and we head off to school. Along the way, Nanna drones on and on about random crap. To be honest, I'm hardly listening, only giving a short yes or no answers while she talks a million miles a minute. Don't get me wrong, I like Nanna, but she sometimes, she finds a topic to talk about and won't stop even if the other person is barely responding. I'm at least polite enough to give a response every now and then.
