Jayden's POVStanding on the indoor balcony from the second floor, I look down at the chaotic party happening downstairs. I have yet to see a sight of Grayson throughout the giant crowd. It doesn't help that the entire room is dark and the only source of light is our giant plasma tv screen, and the flashing disco lights hanging from above. The giant vertical loudspeakers on each side of the tv also emit a circulating rainbow light; though I wouldn't necessarily call that a light source. Along with a bunch of plastic palm trees all over that have hanging lights on them.
Now carefully looking at it, those are the same loudspeakers that Grayson, Ethan, and I would use back when we had our stupid karaoke nights. Which hasn't happened since the breakup. Now I know for a fact that Grayson is behind all this. I swear, when I get my hands on him- "Want me to go down there and look for him?" Kristal says, leaning her forearms against the handrails. "Please," I reply, still concentrated on the crowd. "I may or may not hit on a few guys along the way though." She says, already walking downstairs before I could say anything else. "Of course," I say to myself. Looks like it's up to me then.
Looking down at the party, I see the giant mob of people all dancing dead center of the living room, and most of them are holding drinks in their hands. Everyone seems to be in a specific theme, wearing thin, flowy beachwear with leaves and flowers on their hair. Girls are twerking on the table, random strangers making out with each other, and the jocks are sitting on the couch watching the football game on the tv with random girls around their arms and on their laps. It was all so overwhelming. How the fuck does Grayson know all these people?! What happened to keep his privacy to himself?? What happened to him being 'dead'??! He clearly doesn't care anymore. Oh, and of course there's Oreo who for some reason has sunglasses on and happily wagging his tail as he's constantly winning people's hearts.
I scan the room once more and finally spot him talking with two other guys with a drink in one hand and the other in his pocket. He's wearing some blue shorts with no shirt and a seashell necklace. I can't deny that he looks hot as fuck, and I hate myself for admitting that. He's standing in his classic fuck boy stand as people from all directions start making conversation with him. Now's my time to confront him.
I quickly rush downstairs before Grayson can move locations. I bump and shove through the reckless crowd in my determined stomps with an angered face. But the closer I get to him, the more fear begins to creep up on me. What am I even going to say to him when I do confront his idiotic actions? I was planning to make him tell everyone to leave but- do you think he's going to take my word, out of all people? I find myself slowing down my what once used to be fierce stomps. Until I come to a complete stop. Questioning everything I planning to tell him. My introverted side begins to take over when I realize that all these random party animals are going to listen and watch me argue with him, which is probably going to start some unnecessary drama where everybody is going to huddle up in a circle around Grayson and me and make a big deal about us fighting. And since everyone here knows Grayson, everyone is clearly going to be on his side. Picturing all that in my head only intimidates me even more. I shake my head and turn back around- but before I can, I spot him from the corner of my eye.
He was no longer in the same spot I originally saw him, and he was no longer talking to his two guy friends either. My heart nearly sinks to my stomach when I see him beside the pool table grinding up against some random guy. They were both fully clothed but it almost felt as if they weren't by how passionate they were getting with each other. My eyes can't seem to look away in disbelief. The loudspeakers were blasting music like crazy and the lights keeps flashing on and off so I rubbed my eyes to make sure I'm not seeing an illusion. When I opened my eyes back up, Grayson was still there grinding on some guy. I can't believe it. I watch as Grayson's lips lay soft kisses on the back of the guy's neck as Grayson continues grinding on him. Both of them seemed to be very focused on each other that my heard nearly stopped when Grayson slowly turns his head over to me, staring directly at me with those horny evil eyes piercing through mine as he continues kissing and grinding on him. The guy turns over to face Grayson and wraps his arms over his shoulder as their lips touch. This time I truly feel like my heart sank to my stomach. Grayson begins squeezing his ass and oh god I can't watch anymore.
I know it's feeding Grayson's pride the more I continue to watch him, so I don't. I turn around and walk away trying to forget what I just witness. I don't know why I feel this way. I shouldn't be making that into a big deal, it's not. It really isn't that big of a deal. It isn't. So why do I feel so- angry... and- heartbroken...? Ugh, whatever. I slip my hand into my pocket and pull my phone out to text Bryce.
That's when I feel an aggressive force pulling my phone out of my hands. I look up and see some jock guy carelessly holding my phone in his hands while two other jocks who are right next to him start bursting into laughter. "What are you- Give me my phone back!" I yell. "Who are you texting? Your little boyfriend?" They all chuckle. "That's none of your business just give it back!" I tried reaching for it but unfortunately for me, they all are half the size of me. It only made me look like an embarrassment as I miserably attempt to grab it from his hands. They all laughed at me for doing so. "What's wrong? I thought we were getting along." "I'm not your friend. Just give me my phone back asshole." My eyes begin to water. I know they'll only make fun of me even more if I do, so I suck it in and try my best to contain myself. "Fine." He says. "If you want it so bad, go and get it." He swings his arm back with my phone in his hand and aims at the far end of the living room.
"Fuck off, Cody." I hear from behind, just before Grayson steps into the conversation. He takes a quick reassuring glance at me before swaggering his way past me and in front of the three of them. "Give him his phone back." He commands them. "C'mon Gray. We're just having some fun." Cody excuses his behavior. "I thought you hated this guy?" He points out. "Yeah, is he like your boyfriend now?"Another guy from the group says. They all laugh. "Give him his phone back," Grayson says, calm and dangerous. "Now."
Grayson's intimidating voice followed by his warning stare made Cody realizes that Grayson was not playing. "Whatever" Cody plays it off. With a roll of his eyes, Cody does as he's told. I grab it from his hands and shove it in my pocket before storming off, with my face beaming red. Did Grayson- GRAYSON, really come to my rescue? But why...? Like Cody said, I thought he hated me? I was so lost in my thoughts and confusion that I almost didn't realize a hand grabbing onto my arm. I didn't need to turn around to know that it was Grayson. He always has this firm, but yet so gentle touch to him that I've grown familiar to. "Are you ok?" Grayson says, looking up and down at me in search of any little reason to worry. He looks genuinely concerned. "They didn't, like-" "No, I'm ok," I say brushing it off. I haven't seen him this worried since I was in that hospital bed. His personality has been a complete 180 ever since then; so seeing him act this way again feels strange.
I know that the decent thing I can do is say 'thank you' to him, but the words can't seem to come out. "Just leave me alone," I say, pushing Grayson out of my way as I storm off to my room. "Jay!" Was the only thing I heard before his voice got lost in between the beaming music. I shut the doors to my room before turning off the lights and plopping onto bed. Covering my entire body with the sheets. Kristal's disappearance is the least of my worries right now. All I feel like doing is forgetting this night ever happened and just go to sleeping.
Unfortunately, the loud music coming from downstairs is impossible to ignore so for the past hours, I've just been laying in bed buried deep in my pillows to cover my ears. Until finally, after hours of non-stop chaotic noises, it has finally came to an end. The music has stopped, the chanting crowd has died and left, and now there's nothing left but the soothing sounds of my own breath. My eyes finally begin to close as I feel myself entering a deep sleep.
That's when I feel a heavy force pressing against my entire body. Along with a low drowsy moan, breathing down my neck. A drunken Grayson is felt resting his entire body over mine. Practically crushing me. "Grayson- what are you-" "Shhhhh. Go back to sleep." Grayson says half asleep as he settles down on top of me. "Sorry what happened tonight... they're- a bunch of jackasses. Now close your eyes and go to sleep baby." He continues breathing heavily on my neck. His low croaky voice against my ear oddly enough gives me a weird tingly sensation across my body. Though that wasn't enough for me to admit defeat. Although he did save me from those three assholes, the thought of him grinding on some guy has yet to leave my mind for some reason. "No Grayson, get out!" I kick him before he can fully knock out and my faith has been sealed. "And don't call me baby!" I add. With a long dragged out groan, he gets up. "Whatever." He says before swaying his way back to his own bedroom.
