3rd Person POV"Why do you want to be with me again if... you don't even love me back?" He says, lowering his head from the pain as Jayden finally accepts his truth. Grayson is in complete disbelief at the words he is hearing. He desperately wants to believe that Jayden is just pulling some stupid joke on him, but judging from Jayden's depressed tone and gloomy face, this is no laughing matter. Which only crushes Grayson's healing heart.
"Wha- you can't- Jayden..." He stumbles on his words.
"Save it. You don't have to lie. Just admit that you don't love me anymore." Jayden says. "You threw a huge party with a bunch of random people. You stopped wearing your Ethan disguise whenever you go outside. The paparazzi have spotted you multiple times out in public recently. The whole world knows that you're alive now. You've clearly gotten comfortable showing yourself around public now. So... why do you still hide me?" Just like ripping off a bandage, Jayden finally spits out the question that has been on his mind for the longest time. The question that caused them to break up in the first place.
Grayson was never the type of guy that showed affection when out in public, especially not for another man. Over the past months, he has slowly accepted himself as being a queer man, but stepping outside and exposing his truth in front of a bunch of strangers is still way over his comfort zone. Faking his death was a nice little escape from all the fears, worries, and insecurities he used to have. But now it has come back to haunt him all over again.
"If you really loved me, would you take me out on a date somewhere in public? Not as friends, not with anyone else. Just us two. As a couple. Would you hold my hand in public and randomly kiss me no matter who's watching? Would you?" Jayden confronts Grayson's lack of compassion. Back when they used to date, Grayson would always be dismissive towards Jayden whenever they went out in public. Grayson would be too insecure about his sexuality to show Jayden any sort of love. As an openly gay man, it bothered Jayden that the guy he was dating is still in the closet. Clearly, nothing has changed since then. They both stand there facing each other, not saying a single word. Jayden waits for Grayson to own up to his mistakes, but instead, he has been left with pure silence.
"Would you?!" Jayden repeats himself. Concerned about Grayson's silence.
Still nothing.
Grayson struggles to find the correct words to make a singular sentence. He feels a lump in his throat as he soon realizes that this is a make-or-break situation taking place. He can't screw this up. He can't. But the overwhelming sensation inside his body causes him to freeze, leaving him with a blank mind and a guilty Grayson.
"Really?! So you're not going to say anything?" Jayden's voice cracks. He feels a harsh burn in his eyes as he fights the tears racing out of his watery eyes. He helplessly stands there, hoping that Grayson will apologize. Seconds feel like hours as Jayden waits for him to say something, anything. But he still doesn't. Not a single act of compassion. Not one word. Nothing. Just the heartbreaking sound of silence.
"Jayden..." Grayson finally gets a word out. "You know it's hard for me to show... that part of me, especially in public. But that doesn't mean I don't love you, though. I do love you. A fuck ton."
Jayden doesn't believe him. He knows true love will make someone do extraordinary things for the one they love. But seeing as how Grayson gave zero effort to resolve their issue, the issue they've been dealing with since day 1 told Jayden everything he needed to know. The cold, harsh truth was clear now, and Jayden feels ashamed for letting Grayson manipulate him for so long.
"Fuck you, Grayson. Fuck you." With salty tears nearly racing from Jayden's eyes, he angrily pushes Grayson. This time Grayson does very little to fight back. His flimsy body accepts the push and stumbles backward as his head hangs low. "Bryce has even stopped texting me because of your jealous ass," Jayden shouts.
