"The way you get engrossed in the letter. I am getting curious. What has she written down in those?" Suhana attempted to peep into the letter.
Ayaan rolled his eyes. He folded the paper, glancing at the patient laying before his eyes. "How is she doing?" His voice was stern as if he was least interested in the topic. Like usual, he was a mess. People who doubt if he owned multinational companies. That grey shirt was taped out of his navy blue jeans, his navy blue jacket was crumbled into a ball and thrown on the couch opposite to his, while tie was hanging lowly around his neck.
Suhana walked around the bed and glanced at some of the machines attached to the patient body. "Why you didn't want me to inform her family?" Suhana asked, getting curious as she checked her pulse.
"Is her health improving?" Ayaan dozed the topic.
Suhana stared at him for a minute longer. "Ayaan, they should know her whereabouts. They might be searching for her." Concern was visible in her voice as she glanced at her patient.
"They aren't searching for her." Ayaan voiced it as a matter of fact, his face not expressing emotion.
"What do you mean?" Suhana stared at him in horror. He had grabbed her whole attention after those words. Ayaan was yet staring at the patient. "What are you hiding from me?" She folded her arms around her chest, walking towards Ayaan.
"Isn't it obvious?" Ayaan shrugged his shoulder. His orbs moved toward stunned Suhana. "It's more than a week and there is not a single complaint lodged about her disappearance. That states, she has the least importance in their life."
"We hardly know her name," Suhana pointed out.
"We know her face and there isn't a single complaint lodged on her disappearance." Ayaan narrowed her eyes at Suhana.
"Maybe... maybe they are waiting for her. What if she isn't from this city? We hadn't found any identity proof. We can't be sure if she is from this city even?"
Ayaan was lost in his thought. "I don't trust her family," Ayaan muttered those words as if he was familiar with them.
"Are you even aware, of how insane you sound at the minute?" Suhana shook her head. "You hardly know them..." Ayaan kept his eyes fixed on the paper in his hand.
"Do those letters mention any such thing?" Suddenly Suhana got curious, her hands reaching to grab a paper from his hand.
"Don't," Ayaan moved it away from her reach with an annoyed look. "You're aware I don't like someone hindering my privacy."
"Those aren't your letters. While reading it you are doing the exact thing."
Ayaan kept his mouth shut not providing her with any justification neither was Suhana expecting anything from him.
"She won't be allowed any visit," Ayaan repeated his order. "Only trusted authorities are going to treat her."
"You're behaving as if she is... she is..." Suhana kept her mouth shut, her eyes enlarging in horror. Her hands reached to cover her opened mouth. "She is the Shona," she paused for a second looking for any sign in Ayaan's face to dismiss the thought away but Ayaan kept staring at the patient, his face still emotionless.
"Oh! My!" She cursed as things started sorting out in her brain. Ayaan's daily visit, his concern for her safety, and his reading those letters with so much interest. Those letters weren't just letters but a piece of her. A piece of her inner self.
"How come..." she paused considering her statement. Shona was a very sensitive part for Ayaan more sensitive than his dreadful past. "Are you sure?" Ayaan's sharp look was enough to convince Suhana he wasn't going to talk about the matter.
His eyes soon moved back to the patient and Suhana took that as a clue to walk back out of the room, providing them with privacy.
As the door was shut behind him, he leaned on the sofa, clenching the paper more towards his chest, as he closed his eyes in peace and a small smile played on his lip but at the same moment a drop of tear slid down his eyes.
