xxxix. a test

"You were right."

"About what?" Selina looked up from her phone. It was two weeks after their meeting. She had gone back to school and sleeping like usual after excessively playing games all day and all night with Nathan. Eugene had called and picked her up from her apartment. She wore a white crop top under her new leather jacket, tight black leggings, and her usual red converse shoes. She was also wearing her glasses today, and she had a scrunchie on her wrist.

She had sat at the back seat with him, while Cap Guy was eating his snacks in front. At the back of their car was another car that Mandeok was in.

"About Daniel Park." Eugene smiled.

"The trap worked? That's nice." Selina mumbled, unsure how to feel. Is Daniel fucked now? Was it her fault if something happened to him?

"For your efforts, as a reward, I'm going to show you what the Second Affilate is," He said as the car door stopped, and a door was opened in both Eugene and Seulgi's side.

She was greeted by the sight of a big casino building. She followed Eugene inside, and the two were followed along by Cap Guy and Mandeok.

Selina saw how there were a lot of foreigners gambling in the fancy casino. Curiously she looked around the place. Could Sinu Han be here? They did say they moved him go the Second Affiliate... He can't be the dealers here right? The security are all foreigners too.

"Is this all?" She turned to Eugene.

"What do you mean?" Eugene asked back.

"I mean, It's impressive... But compared to the Third and Fourth Affiliates... This seems bland. If this were a game, there would be a hidden stage somewhere..." Selina analyzed.

"Indeed, you are correct. It seems that you have quite the analytical eye." Eugene smiled. "If you would follow me..."

They entered the lift. Selina wondered what kind of underground business that they have?

"Oh, and before I forget... Wear this." Eugene passed something to her.

"A mask?"

"A red oni mask to be exact, one fitting to your name."

Eugene passed her a half mask for the bottom of her face. The oni was like those Japanese legends, but the fangs were colored gold like it's linings. It looked really cool. It was also practical as the top part of her face was clear of obstacles, and she could even use her glasses.

Selina put the mask on and adjusted it to her face. She took off the scrunchie from her wrist and tied up a high ponytail.

"Looks great." Eugene praised.

"Thanks." Selina smiled under the mask and tidied her bangs and glasses.

The door to the lift then opened, and Selina followed behind Eugene as he walked to a large vault door.

And the sight that she met behind the door was a sight that made her shudder.

A lone man wearing a mask fighting, and several fallen bodies surrounding the cage like place.

"Holy shit."

That man must've been the guy she was looking for all this time.

After the 'circus' was over, she got on the lift and got to another room where there was a group of masked guys inside. It seemed like they were eating as the plates were almost empty.
