The court room I had never been in, only been in the outside of it. It was in the middle of the villages, and used for both Darkdogs and Purebloods. The court room had a few hallways, and smelled like the stuff you used to condition wood. People were packed into the place, all knowing Sam so well, and seeing what the verdict will be. My breath hitched.

"People aren't used to this much excitement on the island. This is a pretty big deal for everyone." Daniel said quietly holding my waist. I placed my one hand on his chest and let him hold me close as we walked through the aisle of people. I felt their eyes in my back, but couldn't really see anyone over the guards surrounding Daniel, his mother and I. We all sat, the queen sitting next to the judge, her hair pinned up tight and wearing a bright yellow cloak. She looked up at me and gave me a small smile, then look straight forward. Daniel sat me down in a chair next to his, and he sat next to the queen.

The door opened again, and my mother and father walked in. People began growling, hissing and snarling. My mother just brought her chin up higher, and walked up to the other side of the judge. My father looked at me and his lip twitched up slightly, but looked hurt almost. I frowned and looked down.

Everyone seemed ready, except for me.

The Duke and Duchess of Birmingham sat up front, and Benny gave me a reassuring smile. Rachel sat near the front too, looking ill.

Her eyes were sunken in and she was pale, Her eyes were red and puffy, and had dark circles under them. I swallowed the lump in my throat. It looked like she was holding back tears. I was too. I also saw Meg sitting with some man, and felt a flame burn deep in my stomach. She looked around with her dark eyes and flipped her hair back. I tensed all over when her eyes locked into mine. Daniel put a hand over my folded one and I looked up at him.

"It'll be okay." he said, squeezing my tense hands.

I looked at him with a sudden longing. I longed to be away from here. No Meg, no court room, just to lay in his arms and have his sweet lips kiss my hair. I longed for his big strong arms right now.

He looked at me the same way, but with a worry. I was used to him being the calm one, the one to be optimistic, but I felt we both knew the punishment would be terrible, and he was worried if I would make it out okay. He took my hand and kissed it softly, helping me relax my shoulders a little.

"The court will now come to order!" Someone said. He must have had some importance, but I wasn't really paying attention. "All rise for Judge Lilith Von Dese, the King and Queen of Darkdogs, The Queen of Purebloods, The Prince of Purebloods, and Princess of Darkdogs." Everyone stood and bowed, and I felt something in my stomach tighten.

People were bowing to me.

"The Case being judged is the case of Sam Zenny. Accused of murder..."

The crowd erupted in cries of outrage, murmurs, and growls.

"Order!" The judge commanded. Everyone fell silent, and the man announcing continued. "His defense is that he was forced by the King and Queen of Darkdogs. The trial now begins. Bring the prisoner in."

Guards brought Sam in, and to my horror he was a disaster.

He had a scruff all over his chin and cheeks, was covered in bruises, and his hair hung down in his eyes. He eyes looked swollen from crying.

He looked up at me and then blinked. I felt tears well up at the sight of him, and he was gently chained up and sat down by the guards.

"Sam, it says you were a faithful servant to the royal Darkdog family. "
