In stayed in bed for a while longer fantasizing over him. Last night was amazing. I closed my eyes and tried to remember his touch, his fingers grazing my back and his warm scent that warmed my body up on the cold night. I inhaled my pillow with his cinnamon scent still in it. I smiled and got up, getting ready for school. I looked out the window, seeing the sun make the icicles drip and the icy snow slowly melt. I glanced at the thermometer: 36 degrees.

“Dad-”

“I know, they’ve been talking about it on the news is talking about it. They think Solian day might be coming sooner than the normal day, or warming up for it.” he replied, drinking his coffee and turning up the news. I poured a bowl of cereal and sat down at the table looking through a magazine.

“New Darkdog and Pureblood laws have come in place, once again by the Commerce of North America, to protect and preserve the justice and rights of all our kind and humanity in the world.” The reporter said dully, as if it was a routine.

I gripped my spoon listening. This was bad.

“ No Darkdog as of today will have any relationship as a significant other with a Pureblood, to preserve both of our kinds.” I inhaled sharply. Justin. “No Darkdog…” it went on for a few minutes, and I swallowed listening to what would make everybody’s life harder. “No Darkdog or humans will go to a Pureblood school as of the date of June 1, 2145.”I dropped my bowl, hearing it shatter against the floor. There was a knock on the door, and I heard Dad get it. I couldn’t move. They spoke quietly for a moment, then Justin came in and looked at me worried.

“Anne, are you okay?” Justin asked worried.

“The...the news...Brior university…” I took in a shaky breath. I guess I was going to a Darkdog college now, but...they didn’t support trainers. Or teaching programs. My future was destroyed.

“Anne, don’t worry, I’m sure a Darkdog university will gladly take you. You have a fight in two weeks, this isn’t the first time this has happened.” Dad said

“I don’t want to go there.” I said sadly.

“We’ll see what we can do.” I nodded.

“Are you ready to go to school?” Justin asked gently

Dad gave him a look I’ve never seen before, like he knew him but didn’t. Justin looked at him as well, almost with a fearless but intimidated look.

Dad was a built man, with a slight scar on his cheek and fearsome blue green eyes. He stood tall at almost 6 ”6, with a serious expression always on. Mom left us when I was little, thats what he told me. Dad was a Darkdog, and proud to be one. My mom was Pureblood, and couldn’t handle the discrimination like we did. I think Dad missed her a lot, even though he was always monotone about it. There’s a picture of her in his room, but I don’t really look like her. People say that I look more like Dad, even with his light brown hair, and tan skin, like Justin’s skin. I was paler than the moon.

“I’m going to go get my bag.” I muttered and went upstairs.

I grabbed my bag but paused when I heard them talking downstairs.

“I can’t forbid anything, but you need to be extremely careful with her. I am doing my job and-”

“I know, but I will do anything for her. We need to get her back soon. It’s almost Solian day.”

“That is for a couple of months, patience. In good time. For now, enjoy this, getting to know her. And be careful. Nothing can happen to her.”

“We leave soon.”
