Daniel sank to the ground next to his mother, placing his father’s head in his lap. My heart plummeted to my stomach and the sound of his sobs made a lump in my throat swell as tears flooded my eyes.

“Father…” He cried out, gripping his head.

A shimmer caught my eye, a broken champagne glass. I picked up a piece, examining it. I sniffed, smelling a strong scent that made me feel sick. I looked at it and saw a light dusting of powder.

“Take the Queen to her room immediately.” I commanded guards. People were yelling orders and searching through people.

“The King has been poisoned.” I said, falling next to Daniel and the King’s dead body.

I took Daniel’s hand as he cried, and suddenly he looked up, his eyes full of something I had never seen before.

“That smell…” There was a flash at the top of the stairs, and then Daniel was after it, shifting into his wolf that was snarling.

“Quick, escort people out safely, and take care of this mess. I’m going for Daniel.”

“Princess you’re in danger-”

“I have to go for him. Protect the queen!” I yelled as I ran out the door. I sprinted into the woods, kicking off my shoes and shifting, tearing the dress I loved to shreds.

My wolf shook out her fur and perked up her ears, listening. She took off in the direction she heard howling.

I wandered, my wolf smelling the air for his scent, when she heard a low growl, spiking up her shackles in caution. Daniels blonde wolf came out, snarling darkly. I whined, edging towards him. He looked at me darkly, crouching.

I whined again, trying to nuzzle his nose when suddenly his paw came out and slashed me, from the neck to the shoulder.

My wolf cried out whining and yelping in pain. Blood trickled down my fur hot and wet.

“Princess!” “Princess!” I heard guards yell. My wolf cried out with hurt and rejection, as I tried to give her strength.

Too much blood. She tried looking around and lights blinded my vision, and darkness consumed me.

I woke up, my one hand clutching the sheets, my other wrapped up tightly, bandages across my neck.

“Daniel?” I said, sitting up, flinching at the sting the movement caused.

“Princess!” a maid, Samantha gasped. “She’s awake!” maids hovered over me, and I swatted them away. I got up out of bed, feeling a nightgown flow at my feet as I flew down the hallway.

“Daniel?” I cried out, looking in every room down the hall. Maids and nurses followed me down the hall yelling for me to come back.

I finally found him, doctors examining him and nurses fluttering around the room.

He was sitting up, looking distantly across the room. He didn’t move to look at me, he didn’t move at all. He was deathly pale and he didn’t pay attention to anyone.

“Daniel?” I whispered, taking his hand. He still didn’t look at me.

“What’s wrong with him?” I asked, looking around for a doctor.

“He’s in a terrible state of shock. I’ve never seen one this bad before.”

“Well what can we do for him?”

“Time. He needs to be in a relaxed environment, and to rest. No stress is to be on him.”

“He’s not responding to me!” I said harshly.
