The first thing that I heard was the heart monitor. It beeped a slow, even, steady beat. I blinked my heavy eyes and forced them open, blinking at the bright light right above me. I began to sit up, and a numbing shock wave of pain bolted up my spine, and the millimeter I had moved I couldn’t. My hip should be healed by now.

“Anne?” Justin said, rushing to my side.

“Justin?” I rasped. I tried to speak but my throat burned and I felt sick.

He gently took my hand and kissed the top of my forehead. “I’m so happy you’re okay.” he whispered.

I inhaled his amazing scent and closed my eyes frustrated. I was frozen in this position, and I had an IV hooked to my arm. It didn’t really hurt, but I didn’t like needles and I never will. I grew anxious. I had a breathing tube connected to my nose, which smelled rubbery and gross, making it hard to get the full effect of Justin’s scent. The lights were bright and it was cold in the room and I shivered.

“Are you cold? Do you want an extra blanket?” he asked, stroking my hair.

I nodded, and he turned and grabbed a blanket off a cot, then gently laid it over me and wrapping it around my sides, careful not to touch near my destroyed hip.

“The lights,” I whispered.

“I’ll dim them for you,” he said, twisting the switch. “better?”

“Thank you.” I said quietly.

“Are you in any pain?” he asked concerned, brushing away some of my hair. I looked at him and felt tears well up in my eyes at the past event that happened. Now that I was awake, my hip was throbbing painfully and the pain went up into my back and down my right leg.

“I’m going to get the nurse, okay? Just relax, I’ll be right back.” He said gently kissing me.

The door creaked open, and slowly and loudly shut behind him. I looked around at the quiet room, taking in the new surroundings. The entire room was dull, the wall held a bright gray, and a strip of green parallel to the floor, wrapping around the room. The entire place smelled like rubber latex and hand sanitizer, and I had the beeping ringing in my ears again. I looked up to see all the monitors and my IV. There was a cold flow of oxygen going through my nose, with the smell of rubber. I began to feel light headed, and my eyes fluttered at the room spinned.

“Anne?” Justing said putting his hand on my forehead.

“I...don’t feel...good.” I said slowly. Seeing his blurred face.

“Anne, stay awake. I’m right here, she’s going to give you a shot to relax you.” He said slowly and clearly. I clutched his hand tightly and took in a sharp breath.

“It’s only into your IV,” the nurse said gently.

I sighed with relief, loosening my grip on Justin’s hand. Slowly I relaxed and my vision came back, and my breathing slowed.

“Have some water,” she said handing me a cup. Justin titled my head and shoulders up a little and I got the whole glass down. It soothed my throat and I felt better.

“More please?” I asked softly.

“I’ll get a pitcher, and the doctor.” she said and hurriedly left.

“How are you feeling?” Justin asked softly, sitting next to me and stroking my hair.

“Better, thank you.”

“I’m just happy you’re okay. I love you. I was scared I was going to lose you.” he whispered.

“I love you too. How long was I out?”
