Charity Art Auction: 78th Gala Anniversary

"This is Ana Beltran special correspondent reporting for CNN Philippines live here at the León Art Gallery in Makati City, where the frenzied crowd were all gathered here for bidding the highly-priced paintings.

The French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Philippines with the French Embassy to the Philippines and Micronesia and Alliance Française de Manille has partnered with León Art Gallery and DF Art Agency for a Charity Art Auction.

This is in support of the Builds-Back Project of the France – Philippines United Action (FPUA), which aims to build 100 homes for 100 families living in temporary shelters in Sogod, Southern Leyte."

The street of Makati where the León Art Gallery, at present, was in mayhem. There were media coverage, high-end cars and private security all sprawled just by the entrance of the building.

Leon Art Gallery boasted a high curved room ceiling. A parade of starlet, socialites and the media, went all vying for the seat in order to be seen by the press and international media all across the country. Flashy lights, expensive gowns and suits to match the hifalutin event. I have almost forgotten the sheer volume of people coming.

"Adrianna please pose for the camera" I heard one of the press say as he tried to get my attention.

I took a deep breath and smiled. The disarming sunbeam smile which was solely meant for occasion such as this.

Hundred of eyes darted towards me with gleaming calculation. I ascended the short flight of stairs up to the lounge entrance overlooking the main lobby of the event.

"Where's the dress from Adrianna?"
I looked down on my bardot corset ruched maxi fishtail dress in gold sequin and smiled to the camera, "It's Saint Laurent"

"Nothing less than expected. Classy as always"

I murmured my thanks politely and gathered up my skirt to make my way to the main entrance.

One last time, my eyes glided to the crowd right behind me as I turned around. So many people gathered tonight in their best. I imagined everyone was frozen behind their television or glued on their phone, watching the live coverage of the media. Ordinary people in their own ordinary time.

I cannot help but be envious to these people who can freely decide for themselves without the weight of its consequences, without the heaviness of world on their shoulders, those who can just freely choose, explore all possibilities without inhibition and just heed the cry of their hearts.

I can never do that.

I have to consider a thousand little things before I make big decisions for myself, no one else knows how my silence were full of wishes upon shooting stars. How they're the result of a hundred nights of questions, of silent prayers for things to work out, and of the countless times hoping for better days.
