Maven: Netflix and chill?
Me: I know that code for something else
Maven: I don't know what you're talking about
Maven: Ang tagal mong magreply. I'm coming over

But instead of Maven, when I reached the front door, It was a different man who appeared on my doorway. I should've glance through the peephole before opening, I felt my smile slipping down the floor the moment I stood there.

The man who was big with dark hair and eyes with a new tan over his skin and a heavy five o'clock shadow on his hard jaw, was my Kuya Elliot. He was beaming from ear-to-ear, it was hard to pretend I wasn't disappointed to say the very least.

My slack jaw snapped shut as I asked "Kuya?"

My hair chose to fall over my eye. I brushed it away from my forehead but still keeping my eyes in the corridor to see if Maven's coming down from his unit.
"Who else would it be? Are you expecting someone else?"

I turned to look at Kuya Elliot, who was now looking at me weirdly. I chuckled humorlessly, attempting my best to, at least, appear normal and not bewildered and nervous that Maven would come down any moment now.

I just stared at him, a bit shocked. "No. of course not. Why would I be?"

"You don't look happy to see me." He added as I pulled him inside. He flopped himself down on my couch, feet held up on my coffee table "The last time I saw you was two weeks ago and I was in Bali. Hindi mo ko na-miss, ganon?"

Arms crossing atop of my chest, I said "It depends if you got a pasalubong for me and if you put your feet down"

His mouth shaped into the barest shadow of a smile as he heed what I said, "Always that spoiled hermana."

He shook his head but pulled out a paper bag that had a gigantic Hermès over it, "Of course I do"

"I was surprised, you didn't even text me that you're coming over"
He shook his head, and, as though that settled the matter, "Well, it didn't seem a problem before"

Something twisted inside me when he looked at me like that, as if he could see a kink on my façade, a fold in my words and a lie to my truth.

I think about the excuses I would make, I feel like an idiot. It's eating me up, wondering if his secretary told him about what happened yesterday.

Looking away, I padded to my kitchen just so I could get away from Kuya Elliot and dug into my fridge.

"Do you want something kuya?" I called out from my kitchen, hoping he would hear me. "Juice? I have Black Forrest in my fridge"
