"Do us all a favor, leave!"

My Dad's verbal lashed was enough to make me flinch. My heart scrunched itself into untangle knots as my chest felt heavier than a ton.

The feeling clawed at my heart and had held me immobilized and cold. And as quickly as that, the people over the party started murmuring, whispering things I couldn't even hear and started the rumor mill.

I saw from my periphery how one of the press people stood and the lights from his camera consequently followed and so does the humiliation of our family as it filled the empty space of the ballroom.

Suddenly, I was brought back to the scandal ten years ago. I thought I had this. I thought I was past this. I thought I could look at them this way and not have any ounce of feelings left to be consumed by this.

But I was taken aback, for a split second, as I looked them going head-to-head against each other once again and I felt like a child-- forlorn and trapped— just like many years ago.

My stomach lurched, adrenaline still rushed through my bloodstream as it made me froze on the spot just like how it used to when I was twelve.

"Oh come on, my love." My mother drawled, flipping her hair a tumble over her shoulders. It framed her flawless, timeless beauty and molded finely by her cheekbone with her creamy skin, despite the age and delicately curly lashes, along with her winged eyebrows to boot.

"I'm sure Adrianna wouldn't take this likely—you kicking out the mother of your children, on your own birthday won't sit well in front of the press"

My father turned to me and his eyes turning soft. There was something about the way he looked at me, as if an unfathomable message he's trying to convey, but it was gone the moment he rubbed a hand down his face. Frustrated and tired, perhaps.

Then he grasped my mother's forearm as he leaned close to her ear, and spoke between his clenched teeth. I didn't catch what he said but it was enough to tell it was anything but fancy and sweet, because I saw how my mother's eyes went wide and all the blood drained from her face.

I hated seeing them like this—hurting each other over the battle that would only dragged both of them down. But my mother quickly waved it off, or tried to, by throwing her head back, laughing at something completely trivial.

And when she spotted Rory who was holding a helium balloon, my mother grabbed her skirt and stopped a few feet short of my little sister. I was suddenly afraid for Rory, more so when my mother leaned in very slowly, her eyes like venom and her forehead scrunched as she stared down at her.

"Why, hello there, little girl" My mother said, her voice dry as she whirled around to my Father and added with a sardonic smile over her lips, "Is this her, Armand? Hmm.. skinny little thing she is and not as beautiful as my Adrianna"
