You sit across from Fury in one of the compounds meeting rooms, neither of you speaking as you simply look each other over. Though you're still wearing your suit and helmet so he can't really see much. You're certainly not what he was expecting, either. He knew that his mystery person he was searching for was likely an enhanced or perhaps just skilled but you're both of those things. Not only that, but it's clear to him after watching your sparring match against the others that you're more powerful than he was expecting too. Not every day a single person manages to take down a group of highly skilled heroes like that.

But now that he knows what you're capable of he can finally go with one of his plans that he had lined up for when he met you.

"So, Nick, are you going to explain why you had the Avengers come after me?" You lean back in your chair as you kick your feet up on the table.

"Why do you think I sent them?" He laces his fingers together as his elbows lean onto the table.

You narrow your eyes at him through your helmet, displeased that he turned the question back to you. "You wanted them to see me in action. To know what I'm capable of. You and I both know that you were fully capable of finding me yourself. If I had to guess, you wanted them to see my abilities because you want me to join their team."

"You're certainly as smart as you make yourself seem." He chuckles lightly as if amused. "That's the gist of it. I knew that they'd be wary of you if I just brought you in unannounced. By having them go after you, they got to see just how skilled you are at multiple different things which should make them more openminded about you joining."

"And the reason you want me to join?"

"You are unmatched in your abilities. You can avoid detection if wanted, you're smart enough to hack into any and every system in the world, you can fight multiple people without breaking a sweat and you're incredibly powerful. This team would benefit greatly from having you on our side."

You scoff lightly as you shake your head. "So basically you want me to join before someone else tries to recruit me to become your enemy instead."

"Can you blame me?" Fury shrugs, leaning back in his chair as he crosses his arms over his chest. "I just watched you singlehandedly take down five Avengers without struggle. The last thing I want is for you to end up on the other side against us because I'm quite certain we wouldn't be able to win against you if you truly wanted any of us dead."

"I'm starting to think you're just trying to flatter me into saying yes."

"Is it working?" You scoff at this, shaking your head. His demeanor changes as he leans forward again, a serious expression on his face. "Joining the Avengers is the best option you could ask for in this situation. I strongly suggest taking it."

You sit in silence as you ponder over all of your options and the possibilities of choosing each one. Becoming an Avenger means you'll be able to take down your targets in a more legal way. You'd also be provided a room at the compound and pretty much anything you could ask for. You'd also get paid. The only real downside is that you'll be living with a bunch of people you don't know which means wearing your helmet whenever you exit your room.

Denying joining the team can lead to a multitude of different things. One is that you have to go on the run and go into hiding to avoid being caught again. If you're caught, the government will more than likely choose to throw you into the Raft for the rest of your life where you'll be confined to a tiny cell wearing a shock collar to keep you from using your abilities. It's either that or they'll decide on the more permanent option of simply killing you.

The third possibility is being taken by an organization like Hydra where you'll be stripped of yourself and turned into a weapon. Hydra can be quite crafty so the chances of you avoiding capture by them is quite slim. At least by joining the Avengers you'll have a team to watch your back and keep you out of that situation rather than you being alone where you're forced to watch your own back. You've been hurt multiple times while on your own including the most recent incident where you were shot. Though in your defense you were distracted by the group of heroes who also failed to notice the gunman before it was too late.

It seems joining the dream team really is your best option. For now at least.

"Alright, you've convinced me. I'll join your little legion of weirdos." You pull your feet off the table before standing up, moving to stand at the front of the room.

Fury stands up as well, moving to stand next to you as he informs Friday to gather the Avengers currently in the compound. "Good choice. We'll have a meeting with the others to let them know you'll be joining the team. We'll also get a conference set up later in the week to announce that you're the newest Avenger to the world."

"I hope you know I'm not taking my helmet off around anyone any time soon."

"That's fine." He waves his hand dismissively. "However I do expect you to give the team a full run down on everything you can do. They'll need to know for future missions and training."

"I've explained most of my ability to Bruce already. Just a basic run down without going too much into the details. I'll be more specific in the meeting with the others when we inform them that I'm joining the team."

The conversation dies after that as the door opens revealing a few members of the team. They all move to sit at the table, some of them sending wary and curious glances at you as they look between you and Fury. Bruce is kind enough to send you a shaky smile which helps you relax slightly. You had failed to realize you were even nervous in the first place until that moment.

"I'd like to formally introduce you all to your newest team member." Fury motions towards you. "This is Glitch. I don't expect you all to get along with her right away but I do expect you to treat her like a member of the team. Now, she's going to give you all a rundown on what all she can do so I expect you all to listen closely."

The team turns to look towards you expectantly, some looking more interested than others. Tony especially looks intrigued, his lips pursed as he leans forward with his elbows resting on the table, hands folded together as he perches his chin on top of them. You wouldn't put it past him to be having Friday record all of this for your file.

Taking a deep breath, you cross your arms over your chest as you focus your gaze on Bruce, feeling significantly less nervous about explaining everything to him since you already did once before. "To put it simply, I have telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, illusions, technopathy and pain manipulation. All of this is essentially controlled by the blue mist you all have seen me using. I can also harden it to use as a shield like I did during our fight earlier."

"What about your weird AI?" Clint questions as he leans against the wall with his arms and ankles crossed, looking as if he would rather be somewhere else.

"Alice is capable of a few different things. Think Friday but better." You smirk a little at Tony's narrowed gaze. "She essentially just makes my job easier by taking care of controlling cameras and technology so I don't have to worry about it. That way I can focus more on the task at hand and my other abilities rather than worrying about the technological side of things."

"How many of your powers can you use at once?" Bruce questions, his curiosity getting the better of him.

You shrug. "Pretty much all of them though it strains my body and drains my energy pretty quickly."

The meeting ends right after that since Fury wants to leave instead of wasting his time listening to everyone ask questions about your abilities. Afterwards Tony shows you to an available room which is practically empty except for the bed and a side table. There's also two doors, one leading to your own bathroom and the other leading to a huge closet. The entire room is bigger than your apartment.

It'll take some getting used to, but you'll probably enjoy living at the compound. At least you don't have to pay any bills or anything here. The only downside is the lack of privacy and the fact that you'll have to walk around wearing your helmet whenever you're outside of your room.
