"What in the hell is this, Nitya? I've been waiting for you for over ten minutes and you're here frolicking with your boyfriend!" Adwait seethed with disappointment.

He couldn't believe that she had given her boyfriend more priority over their work especially when it included his own work.

"Watch your tone, Adwait," Virat stepped forward. He was displeased with his sharp tone.

Nitya fearfully glanced back and forth between them at the prospect of a potential conflict. She had observed their rare interactions before and they were far from pleasant or comforting.

"But I was here on time. It was you who didn't show up," she replied calmly in order to defuse the tension in the air.

Nitya's words only served to fuel Adwait's mounting frustration. "What in the world are you doing here?" He barked at her. "I've been trying to reach you, calling and texting, but you never bothered to reply. And why the hell aren't you on the east section of the library?"

Adwait was a man who valued punctuality above all else and nothing got under his skin more than someone wasting his time. And here was Nitya doing this very thing, all because she was too busy with her boyfriend.

Couldn't she have simply texted him to let him know that he needn't have bothered showing up? But no, she had to be irresponsible and thoughtless, wasting his precious time like it meant nothing.

"You didn't ask me which section to come to, so I didn't know. And as for calls and texts, my phone was in my bag, I didn't hear it," Nitya's frustration was mounting over his over tone.

Adwait's eyes narrowed, "We were assigned an ancient topic for the assignment, so obviously you should be in the east section where the books are available, not here where there are only modern books. And you didn't even bother to call me to ask why I haven't reached yet, seems like you're too preoccupied with someone else," he added shifting his gaze towards Virat who was fuming with annoyance.

"Don't you think you're going overboard now? It's just a slight misunderstanding, but you've made it into a big issue," Virat interjected. He cast a sympathetic glance at Nitya, "I don't know how you're going to bear his presence for the whole assignment."

"Well, no one asked you to meddle between us and stop being her lawyer," Adwait rolled his eyes.

He couldn't comprehend Virat's annoying habit of constantly interrupting their conversations and interjecting his opinions where they were not needed nor wanted.

Nitya wracked her brain to think of something. She was dreading the moment when their argument would escalate into a full-blown fight, knowing both men were hot-headed.

Virat's eyes flickered with a hint of amusement as he straightened up, "Well, when it comes to her, I don't mind being a lawyer."

A small smile crept onto Nitya's lips. She wasn't surprised at all by Virat's protective gesture. She knew he would never let a chance slip away to defend her.
