Nitya placed the magazine on the soft expanse of her bed and reached for her phone. A call, and it was none other than Raj.

Her brows knitted together in curiosity and concern as she glanced at the clock, watching the hands tick away the late hours of the night.

"Hello, What is it, Raj? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, yeah, everything's totally fine, Nitya," Raj reassured her. "I'm really sorry for calling so late. My mom's been trying to talk to your mom about the arrangements, but for some weird reason, your mom hasn't been answering her phone since this evening. So, my mom insisted I call you instead."

"Arrangements?" Nitya questioned.

"Didn't Aunty mention that both of our families has planned a temple visit?"

"I got home late from the university today, so it's likely that Maa just forgot to fill me in on our plans," she fibbed, even though she had spent over an hour helping her mother in the kitchen and they hadn't discussed the temple visit at all.

"I see," Raj hummed, pouring himself a glass of water.

"I'll let Maa know first thing in the morning; she's fast asleep now," Nitya said as she settled back onto the bed.

"Alright, then. By the way, how are you, though?"

"I'm fine, and you? How's your new project work going on?"

"You can probably gauge it from the fact that I just walked through my front door about twenty minutes ago from the office," Raj replied with a hint of exhaustion in his voice. "It's been quite hectic, but my paycheck demands the effort, so I can't really complain."

"You are indeed hardworking, Raj, especially considering how quickly you've climbed the ladder to this promotion," Nitya remarked.

"It's always a wonderful feeling when a hardworking heart recognizes another," Raj replied with genuine gratitude. "Thank you, Nitya."

Nitya felt a buzz in her phone. Pulling it away from her ear, she saw Adwait's name flashing on the screen, along with three other missed calls.

Her eyes widened. He must have been trying to reach her ever since she began talking to Raj. Swiftly, she brought the phone back to her ear.

"I'm getting another call, Raj. It was really nice talking to you."

"Woaahh, you sound quite in a hurry. Is it your boyfriend's call?" He teased.

Nitya froze for a moment, her heart skipping a beat, before she quickly gathered her words. "Well, nothing quite like that. Goodnight." With a soft farewell, she disconnected the call.

She didn't want to disclose her relationship with Adwait to Raj, even though he appeared understanding. The risk of her parents finding out was too great to take.
