"Goodbye, take care," Nitya whispered softly and pressed a quick kiss on Adwait's cheek. Just as she was about to get out of the car, Adwait suddenly locked the gate again. Nitya looked at him, puzzled and curious.
"My kiss?" Adwait signalled towards his lips, causing Nitya's eyes to widen.
She glanced around the empty, twilight-filled backyard. Even though the place was quiet and deserted, she couldn't shake the feeling that someone might be watching, even from the shadows. It made her senses go on high alert.
"Adwait, someone might see us."
"My car's windows are tinted, love," he reassured, "Moreover, it would be just a peck.
Nitya leaned in quickly, pressing a brief kiss to his lips. But Adwait grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her into a deeper, more intense kiss. The suddenness of it made Nitya let out an involuntary moan.
She gave in to his kiss with a quiet surrender before they finally pulled away. Adwait brushed his lips against her forehead. "Now go. I love you."
"I love you, Adwait," she confessed with a tender smile. She gave him a gentle wave, bidding a soft goodbye before stepping out of the car.
She walked quickly toward the front of her house. A slight blush colored her cheeks as she replayed the memory of their recent kiss.
She stepped inside the house. Her mother was sitting on the sofa with a thoughtful look, while her father was pacing paced back and forth, clearly uneasy. Noticing the change in the vibe, she hurried over to them.
"Maa, Papa, what happened? Is everything fine?"
"Where are you coming from?" her father questioned in his usual stern tone.
Nitya's heart pounded like crazy. Had they seen her? The thought made her briefly panic, but then she reassured herself that it was unlikely—unless they just happened to be looking from her room's balcony.
"Got back from university, Papa. Had an extra class," she whispered, weaving a small deception.
In reality, she had been out on a date with Adwait, which made her an hour late. Lately, punctuality wasn't a big deal for her. She often showed up later rather than on time.
The next event left her stunned and numb. A sudden slap from her father caused her face to contort, tears streaming from her eyes. The impact left her cheek tingling, and her entire being quivered. Never before had he raised a hand to her.
Her mother, taken aback, quickly came over to her. "What on earth are you doing?"
He barked with anger, "Have you thrown away every shred of shame, to the point where you have the nerve to lie right to my face?" He snapped, completely ignoring the question his wife had asked.
Nitya was frozen and numb. Tears streamed down her face, and she held her sore cheek with one hand, eyes locked on the floor.
"Who in the world is Adwait Scindia?" he demanded, his voice laced with anger.
