"Aru, for God's sake, no more of this makeup, or you're going to layer it on so thick I'll be walking around like a cake!" Nitya groaned in protest.
"Zip it, sweetheart. This is far from minimal - at least give me this today. It's a big occasion," Aru scolded her.
"Aru, enough already! At this rate, we'll arrive only after everything's wrapped up," Nitya chided.
Arushi sighed, deftly finishing the application of lipstick on Nitya before taking a step back to assess her handiwork. A mischievous smile played on her lips. Adwait would surely be taken aback by the vision of Nitya in the Saree she had draped.
"Alright, let's make an entrance," Arushi grabbed Nitya's hand and lead her out of the house.
"Come on, Aru, just let me see how I look!" Nitya protested, but Aru kept on leading her, ignoring the request.
As soon as they reached the garage, Nitya noticed Samar's car sliding into the driveway.
"What's he doing here?" Aru asked, surprised. Nitya just shrugged in reply.
"Hello, beautiful ladies," Samar grinned, his gaze sweeping over Nitya. "Damn, sister-in-law, you're on the brink of giving my brother a heart attack," he remarked.
Nitya blushed. Her heart was racing as she thought about how Adwait would react seeing her like this. After all, she'd decided to wear a saree, just like he'd asked her to show up in this traditional look.
"By the way, Happy Returns of the day. You've officially stepped into your twenties," Samar greeted, enveloping Nitya in a warm hug. "Adwait has a super sexy surprise planned for you," he whispered conspiratorially in her ear.
"What is it?" Nitya asked, full of anticipation excitement.
Instead of replying, Samar just moved in to hug Arushi.
"Now, let's not keep the grand convocation waiting. We can't afford to be late, especially when our dear Nitya is being honored as the top achiever this year," Arushi grinned.
They hopped into Samar's car and headed straight for the university.
Throughout the drive, Nitya nervously fiddled with her fingers all the while constantly checking her phone for any messages from Adwait. But there was nothing.
Soon, the grand gates of the university appeared. As they parked the car, the group got out and was greeted by the dazzling lights that decorated the whole campus.
"Let's go, Arushi. We'll make our way directly to the grand hall," Samar declared, securing the car. "And for you, Nitya, head to the administrative building. Adwait is waiting for you there."
"Huh? Why not all of us together?" Nitya questioned with a quizzical frown.
"He's practically dying for some alone time with you. Just go, or he'll never let me hear the end of it if you tag along," Samar urged, a knowing smile and a hint of mischief in her voice.
