It is 117 years later after World War Three Planet Earth in the United States, and fifteen year old Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell is a war orphan and she has lost all of her family due to radiation sickness along with her seventeen year old fiance, Roy L Mock in Virginia.

Even 117 years later after World War Three, Planet Earth all over is left with world wide famine, food shortages, people are dying to the long term effects of radiation sickness.

Despite the new kinds of therapy to treat radiation sickness. It doesn't work on everyone.

Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell watches one by one her family die from radiation sickness and she is the only left unaffected by it.

Karissa is sent to live with relatives, but due to the food shortage and the rationing of food coupons only to immediate family members. They can no longer feed her and the family she is living with hears about the relocation program started by The United Federation of Planet it is fashioned after the failed Children Immigration Program in England.

The relatives place Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell into the program and they drive her to the San Francisco International Airport and along with 499 young war orphans they board the USS Republic with Captain Janeway.

All the young people are between the ages of 15-17 years old and they are headed for either Star Base 10 or 12 with a brief stop to Talos IV .

Their journey takes them four and half years from Planet Earth and Karissa meets Susan Virginia Bell and Katherine Grace Kelly

They become good friends and spend all the time together in the garden on board the USS Republic and they eat all their meals together.

Susan Virginia Bell is from New York, Katherine Grace Kelly is from North Carolina and Karisssa Elizabeth Ann Lowell is from Virginia.

The USS Republic in January of 2273 orbits around Talos IV and it picks up a sole passenger, Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley who is headed back to Star Base 12 from Talos IV where he has come from burying his family that had been slaughtered by Kudus the Executioner.

Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley is very mad and he is after the blood of Kudus and his daughter for murdering his family in cold blood.

Kudus and his daughter had fled and nobody not even Starfleet Command or the United Federation of Planets knows where they are.

One day Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley walks into the garden on board The USS Republic, but he doesn't realize that Karissa, Susan, or Katherine are in the garden until he turns around and he looks at them and he says " I am sorry I didn't know anyone was in here?"

"We come here every day." Karissa tells him.

"We come here to escape from everyone on board this starship." Susan explains.

"We don't like crowds of people." Katherine tells him.

"I feel the same way." Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley tells them.

"I am Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley." Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley introduced himself.

"This is Susan Virginia Bell, Katherine Grace Kelly and I am Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell." Karissa tells Lt. Kevin Thomas Riley.

"We are headed for Star Base 12." Katherine tells him.

"I am headed back for Star-Base 12 to return to Starfleet Academy." Kevin tells them.

"We will be living at a boarding House on Star Base 12." Susan tells Kevin.

"I know the place. Madame's Boarding House in Bedford Territory." Kevin tells them " It is a nice place out in the country."
