<— | Maybe he isn't THAT bad? | —>
Here i am. The restaurant. Again. Well, That's obvious. It's a week day— But it feels off, because instead of customer cars; There's police cars. We were all told we're going in for questioning, then they'd leave.
As I waited for the investigators to call me into Henry's office, I fiddled nervously with my hands - I was just scared they'd find me suspicious since I was the one who found her body. An investigator walked in and called my name. I stood up, trailing slightly behind the officer in fear. Since the diner wasn't closed for the day, the workers who'd already been questioned had been ordered to fix up things. I'd always been afraid of cops, though I never knew why.
The fear had just... developed, at some point. I nearly bumped in behind the officer as he came to a halt, cracking open the door and gesturing me to walk inside. Henry was in William's office, waiting for me and William to be done, so that they could both get back to their work.
I entered the room, and William stood up from the chair, walking past me. He mouthed 'Good luck' and a wink, which sent shivers down my spine. He closed the door behind him, leaving me alone with the buff, daunting investigators. I sat down in front of them, feeling small and vulnerable.
"So, Ms. Ln, let's get started. What was the time of which you discovered the body?" I diverted my eyes to the officer that had just clicked his pen, seemingly ready to document what i said, and my behaviour.
"W-well..i, was .. Too upset t-to pay attention to that, but.. I think about.. 3:00PM?" My eyes pointed down to my lap, feeling a bead of sweat rolling down my cheek.
One of the officers muttered, 'Suspect... nervous... won't look at officers... too upset...' Their words sent fear down my stomach. The other officer leaned forward, resting his fists on the desk. "Do you know why the incident occurred?" he questioned. I mentally sighed, trying to make myself look as confident as possible. "No, I don't," I said. "Although, I did kiss Aria that same day. And... when she left, I saw William like... eyeballing me." I fiddled with some stray strands of hair that hung in front of my eyes. I could hear faint muttering from the officer documenting, but I didn't pay attention to it.
The investigator's voice was low and measured as he asked, "Do you know whether the subject of the allegation has been involved in any other incidents?' I paused, thinking back to any other strange occurrences. "No," I finally replied. "Just that he's a little... eccentric." The investigator only hummed in response, his eyes fixed on me. "Well," he continued, "what happened? Be as specific as possible."
I could feel a surge of emotion rise up to my eyes, tears threatening to surface. "I..." was all I could muster up before I let out a long, sorrowful weep. I sniffled, the tears running over the ones that had started sticking to my cheeks. "I'm... I'm sorry..." I inhaled a deep breath before slowly exhaling. I gathered my bearings and continued my original sentence. "I was just... doing my job, about 15 minutes after I had kissed Aria. Henry had requested me to get something from the parts and services... My memory is too faint to remember what exactly he wanted me to get, but..." I continued my speech, messing up multiple times due to my tears.
<------>
"Lastly, do you have anything to add onto the issue?" I suppose this is a perfect time to talk about the stalking.. I feel like it has a connection. "I.. think so. I'm being stalked, and I- I just have this gut feeling it has something to do with the murder."
I could hear the pen scribbling on the paper once more. "I see. We'll look into that, just pay a visit to the local station." This made relief surge throughout my body, giving me a sense of comfort.
"Thank you." I replied, standing up. I walked over to the door, giving the officers a last glance before I opened it and gently closed it shut. I walked over to the main area where joe was, relieved that the questioning was over. "Hey. How'd it go?" Joe inquired, standing up. "It went.. fine, I think." I muttered, giving Joe a shy smile. "Oh yea, I have something in my car for you. Hold up–" Joe exited the restaurant, and came back only a few moments later with a bag. "Lo bought you this." He handed me the bag, silently telling me to open.
"Holy shit, isn't this like 50$?" I responded, gently setting the bag on the floor and pulling out a pastry box. "Don't ask me. Lottie's got like, some secret stash or something." I put the pastry box on the table, before looking back at Joe. "Tell Lottie I appreciate it." Joe only gave me a smile and a wave before leaving the restaurant entirely. "What's that?" A voice spoke behind me, causing me to flinch. I turned around and I saw William, I don't know what I expected. "Nothing. Lo got me something from the bakery." William only nodded, giving me a half-smile. "Well.. I brought my kids here, wanna meet them?" Only the word 'kids' gave me a warm feeling inside, and so I immediately responded. "Yes! Oh my god!" The smile on my face grew larger. "This way, then." He replied, turning around with his heel, strutting towards the hallway.
When we reached his office, he came to a halt. I stopped behind him, watching as he pushed down the handle of the door and opened it. "Oh, my dearest children, look whom i have brought." William purred, standing aside and letting me walk into the office. It didn't take even more than a second for me to immediately get ambushed by the middle child, Elizabeth. "Miss Y/N!" She screeched, the sound ever-so-rudely infiltrating my ears. "Hi, Lizzie!" When Elizabeth finally let me stand up, I dusted myself off. I then felt something touching my thigh, and I looked down to see Evan hugging it. "Hi, miss Y/N..." He mumbled, nuzzling his face into my thigh. "Oh, hi Evan!" I replied, ruffling his hair softly. "Alright, alright, I do need to talk to Y/N. You kids do whatever."
That... Kind of scares me.
After the kids had exited the room, he prompted me to sit down in the chair in front of him. "Yes, Mr Afton?" I questioned, resting my hands in my lap. "I'm... Sorry." He replied, slightly shocking me. "What?" I said, in utter disbelief. "I'm sorry for being a little, well.. Eccentric. I've been weird towards you. Let me make It up for you?" He professed, reclining onto the swivel-chair. "Oh... well, sure.. Why not?" I responded, kind of taken aback. "Great, so.. Let me take you out for dinner tonight. I'll pick you up." That sentence alone made my heart flutter. I could feel my lips upturning into a smile, but I quickly put a stop to that action. Do I really want to? I know what I saw.. "Ok." I nonchalantly replied. "Great, I'll pick you up today at 8PM. Wear some nice clothes." He smiled, sending surges of warmth down my body. I stood up from my chair, and exited the office. Instead of leaving, I just slumped against the door of the office.
Oh my god, he basically just asked me on a date!
