{ SICK OF THE SILENCE }
There you sat, curled up under blankets. In Rowan's Apartment. "And how were you feeling, then?" He half turned his head, to show he was listening. He was stood in the kitchen, music playing at a low volume from his TV.
Honestly, you were expecting something trashy.
"I felt.. terrified, but-" you paused, sniffing curiously. You caught the wonderful smell of hot cocoa emanating from the kitchen, your lips curling into a half smile.
You were just glad he wasn't being an annoying asshole, like he usually was.
His apartment was actually quite nice. A flat screen TV hung on the wall, and a grey L-shaped couch with pillows adorned it. The kitchen was open plan, so you could see what he was cooking, and there was a slight wall separating the kitchen from the bathroom door.
He had posters of random stuff he presumably liked, along with an electric guitar sitting on the floor right by a framed shirt.
"Hey, Rowan?" You spoke, your voice a little raspy. "Mm... Yeah?" He answered, humming along to the music. You turned your gaze to the city view behind you, admiring the passing cars. "How come you're not being annoying and clingy, like you usually are?" you asked, your attention still fixed on the beautiful cityscape.
He let out a hearty laugh before responding, "I guess I just had a revelation. Being called a fruit cup by your friend kind of throws you off, you know?"
"A fruit cup?" Your voice bubbles with laughter as he emerges from the kitchen, holding two mugs that steam with warmth. He places yours on the coffee table, revealing a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkling of mini marshmallows on top. You can't help but smile as you watch him take a sip of his own, the heat of the drink warming his cheeks.
He sat his back on the coffee table as you picked yours up, whiffing it before taking a sip, giving you a cream moustache.
Suddenly, "Vixen" By destroy boys and a vibration came from Rowan's pocket, which gave him a scare. "Oh, sorry, i gotta take this real quick." He apologized and answered the call, but his face quickly tensed up. The voice on the other end was screaming, sending shivers down your spine.
He just hung up on the phone, looking up at you while rubbing his ear, "I'm pretty sure that was William."
Your eyes widened to this, your body tensing up. "What was he saying?"
"Just some shit.. Like, 'I know you have her!' It was really freaky, honestly."
As his voice trailed off, a sudden ping from my phone sent shivers down my spine. I quickly retrieved my phone, and to my surprise, it was a message from William. "Um... he just messaged me." The sound of the notification echoed in the silence, a stark reminder of the tension that hung in the air.
...
William's POV
Come back. Come back. Come back.
"Uh.. dad?-" I cut him off, the sound of a painful slap reverberating throughout the entire house.
"Just shut up Michael! I can't fucking believe you!" I shoved Michael off of the couch, the soft thud adding more tension. I felt a sudden urge to flee, and as i rose from the couch, my senses returned. Without hesitation, i darted out the door and into my car. The piercing sound of my tires scraping against the pavement was a mere afterthought, could i be bothered?
My thoughts were screaming at me, prompting me to put on some music, turning up the volume to the point where it became unbearable.
Sa-la-la-la, sick of the silence
How dare she just leave without giving me a chance to explain myself?!
My thoughts were interrupted by a jolt as i slammed my foot on the brake, stopping my car just inches away from colliding with another vehicle.
Sa-la-la-la, sick of the silence
I waited with bated breath, your foot tapping incessantly against the car floor as i grew increasingly impatient.
I would have been able to catch her.
And keep her. Close to me.
But i just had to be slow at reacting.
Where could she be?
When i shut my eyes, it's a big commotion
And when i close the blinds, there's a mouth that opens,
Your POV.
You gazed out the window, lost in thought as Rowan kept you company.
Despite the early hour, you felt your eyelids growing heavy.
It had been two hours since William's message, begging you to return, and you couldn't shake the feeling of weariness that was slowly overtaking you.
Your phone's sudden notification made you jump, causing you to wince and tumble to the floor. And Rowan couldn't help but chuckle at your clumsiness.
"Ha-ha, very funny, dicktard." You glared at him, burying yourself back in the blanket you were encased within.
You picked up your phone, seeing that the message was from your mom. Except, it was a missed call. "Oh crap, my mom tried to call me."
"It's probably fine, you can just call her back."
You answered the call and put it on speaker, but your mom's voice was so loud and angry that it made you and Rowan flinch.
You tried to interrupt her, but she didn't seem to hear you. After a few moments, she stopped screaming and started breathing heavily.
You could hear the sound of her breaths over the phone, and it made your heart race with worry. You looked over to Rowan, and his eyes were as wide as plates. You took a deep breath and tried to calm your mom down,
but she was too worked up to listen. Eventually, she stopped breathing heavily, and you could hear a hint of hostility. "Your stupid boyfriend," She began, "Your stupid boyfriend ransacked the house! He broke in, and started pulling everything out of every. fucking. shelf and cupboard." She finally finished. Your jaw hung agape in shock. You wondered what other places William had ransacked while he was at it.
All this, searching for you?
You looked back over to rowan, who's face was now painted with worry.
"Should we call the poli-" You cut him off. "No! Absolutely not! I just know he killed aria, and did he sweet-talk himself out of the suspect picture? Absolutely! It won't work!"
"... I think you're staying here for a few days. And, do you want me to stay by your side at work?" He inquired, empathy lacing his voice.
"Y-Yeah, i think that'd be nice.."
You really needed the money that you got from work. Plus, it shouldn't be that hard to keep away from him.. Right?
Right?
