John was a submissive, obedient boy living in a world where male and female children were sent to schools based on their gender, with males taught to be submissive and obedient and females taught to be dominant and aggressive. Everyone in society loved this system, despite the fact that numerous instances of public humiliation occurred when the males failed to obey their orders correctly, or had not yet been assigned a mistress.
John longed for a mistress of his own, not only because it meant having someone to obey, but also because it was socially required by peers and colleagues. Those without a mistress were ridiculed, seen as useless and were a disgrace to their families. For those lucky few who had a mistress, a special collar was placed around their necks, symbolizing the intangible bond between master and mistress.
John desperately wanted this special collar for himself, despite his silent pang of fear. He often wondered what life would be like if the system was different. He wanted to have a mistress who respected him as an equal, someone to protect him from the cruel system that had been a cruel master. But, as he was taught in school, these desires for a different way of life were not allowed, as everyone preferred the current order.
Still, John dreamed of the day when things would be different, and he could show his submission without feeling like he was nothing more than a slave. Until then, he would keep his head down, stay obedient and hope that one day his dreams would come true.
