ACT I                   CHAPTER 6
( you learn to live with the pain )

EVELYN FELT HERSELF BECOME CONSCIOUS, YET APART OF HER DIDN'T WANT TO WAKE UP. She didn't want to return to the nightmare of living without the only other person who connected with her truly.

Finnick sat by the side of her laying body, gently tracing circles on the back of her hand and waiting for her to awaken.

The hushed murmurs and whispers around the room quietened when Eve slightly shifted herself comfortably, and fluttered her eyelids open.

The bright light adjusted to her eyes after a few seconds. Looking around, her gaze first met with Finnick. He had a soft smile spread across his lips to the girl instead of his usual smirk.

Evelyn looked around and saw Zane, Raven, Ezra, and Angelina standing there with sad grins to the girl. There was a person missing out of the formed group, and Evelyn felt more pain when she realised the missing piece is Ace.

Water pricked in her eyes, but she didn't allow any to escape.

"We are so proud of you." Raven lightly spoke. Evelyn half smiled at the escort. "You are so, incredibly brave."

"How long until Caesar interviews me?" The twinless twin sighed.

"Tomorrow afternoon. Your leg will be fully healed by then and... Since Ace was your brother, President Snow has granted you the time to mourn." Finnick told, sadness etched in his tone for the blonde girl.

Was. A term Eve now has to come to terms with.

"How nice of him." She scoffed, her bottom lip trembled for mere seconds.

There was a dull silence between everyone until Zane spoke up. "We'll let you rest. Let us know if you need anything."

I need my brother back, she thought.

Evelyn nodded in response and everyone gradually left her room, except Finnick.

"Do you want me to leave?" He softly asked.

In her head, her word's repeatedly shouted no. But she needs some time alone to process everything so she doesn't become a complete mess on stage.

"I'll see you later, Finn." She said, trying to make sure her voice came out kindly.

The golden boy nodded in understanding, let go of her hand, and hesitantly left the room, closing the door quietly behind him.
