🎈CHAPTER 12🎈
•Carlita's POV•
The 4th of July was a day of celebration, but not to me, it felt like darkness was creeping on to us, as we were staring at another kid's missing poster. Richie was playing the tuba in the background, how he even got his hands on it, no one knows.
"They say they found part of his hand all chewed up near the stand pipe." Stanley says, his voice sounding like it could break at any moment. "He asked to borrow a pencil once." Ben says. Bill flipped the missing poster of Ed Corcoran, to find Betty Ripsom's underneath.
"It's like she's been forgotten, because Corcoran's missing." Bill states, I couldn't help but think Bill looked really good standing by the wall like that, I shook my head getting rid of all the inappropriate thinking.
"Is it ever gonna end?" Stanley asks curiously.
"What the fuck, dude?" Richie asks the guy who took back his tuba. "What are you guys talking about?" Eddie asks, rounding the corner, Richie also joining us, taking an ice cream from Eddie's hand. "What they always talk about." Richie points out, I joined Bill's side, he gave me a small smile, taking my hand in his.
"I actually think it will end, for a little while atleast." Ben spoke up. "What are you talking about Benny?" I ask curiously. "So I was going over all my Derry research and I charted out all the big events. The iron explosion in 1908, the Bradley gang in '35, and the blackspot in '62, and now kids being... I realized this stuff seems to happen..." Ben explains to us. "Every 27 years." Bill says in realization.
"Okay, so let me get this straight, it comes out from wherever to eat kids for, like, a year? And then what? It goes into hibernation?" Eddie asks sitting next to Bill on silver.
"Maybe it's like... What do you call it? Cicadas? You know the bugs that comes out every 17 years." Stanley explains.
"My grandfather thinks this town is cursed, he says that all the bad things that happen in this town are, because of one thing, an evil thing that feeds of the people of Derry." Mike told us.
"But it can't be one thing, we all saw something different." Stanley says, I could remember every detail of the encounter I had with the clown clearly, it send shivers down my spine. "Maybe. Or maybe it knows what scares us most and that's what we see." Mike says trying to understand this himself.
"I saw a leper. He was like a walking infection." Eddie spoke up nervously, "But you didn't, because it isn't real. None of this is, not Eddie's leper, or Bill seeing Georgie or the woman I keep seeing." Stanley told us looking down.
"She hot?" Richie asks, I shook my head at him, it really wasn't the time for his practical jokes. "No, Richie, she's not hot, her face is all messed up. None of this makes any sense, they're all like bad dreams." Stanley says scared. Mike looked up at him, "I don't think so, I know the difference between a bad dream and real life, okay?" He told Stanley. "Mikey did you see something too? What did you see?" I ask looking at my friend curiously.
"Yes. Do you know that burned down house on Harris Avenue? I was inside when it burned down, before I was rescued, my mom and dad were trapped in the next room over from me. They were pushing and pounding on. When the firemen finally found them, the skin on their hands had melted down to the bone. We're all afraid of something." Mike shared with us, I laid my head on his shoulder in comfort, I knew how hard it is for him to talk about his parents, it was still a very sore spot for him.
"Carli, w-w-what did you see?" Bill asks me, I knew he was curious of what I saw. "I'd rather not say, and it's like Mike said we're all afraid of something, I'm not brave enough to talk about mine." I said, hoping he would understand. "Got that right." Richie says, turning around to look behind him. "Why Rich? What are you afraid of?" Eddie asks our friend.
"Clowns."
