Song for this chapter: 608 by Carlie Hanson
I sat in the lobby of Samsung Medical Center by myself, waiting for my driver to show up and take me to the BTS dorm. I clutched my bag tightly and tried to distract myself from spiraling into a panic attack. It wasn't a particularly busy night in the hospital but there were still patients and doctors bustling about. The hum of their voices combined with the squeaking of the vinyl covered seats that sounded each time I shifted was starting to grate on my nerves. All I wanted to do was lay down and sleep. I didn't think I had ever felt so exhausted in my life.
After I had agreed to stay at the dorm, Leader Namjoon leapt into action. He pulled out his phone and called his manager to tell him that he needed to arrange a ride for Yoongi, JK, Tae, and himself. Almost as an afterthought, he also requested a driver for me, but only after very awkwardly telling me that I couldn't be seen with any of the members in public, so we had to go separately. They left out of the back entrance around 20 minutes ago, while I had to sit and wait by myself in the bustling lobby.
Not gonna lie, I felt more than a little abandoned.
To his credit, Namjoon did feel bad about leaving me alone. Tae and JK had also expressed concerns for my safety. But of course, Yoongi had remained silent the entire time, keeping his hand loosely on mine until their driver arrived. As soon as he could, he left without a backward glance.
Tired of sitting in the lobby, I got up and wandered outside. It was nearing nightfall, so the city was starting to light up. I couldn't deny that the Seoul night sky was pretty, even if it completely blocked out all of the stars. I made my way to a bench a little further off from the entrance and sat down, clutching my head in my hands.
I was so disoriented. The last 24 hours felt like it had passed in five minutes but also somehow dragged on for a hundred years. Sighing, I straightened back up and scanned the roadside to see if my driver had arrived yet. Namjoon had just told me to look for a suited man in a black car.
Real fucking descriptive, buddy.
Looking around for my ride, my eyes caught on a man in face mask and a black suit as he was stepping out of a non-descript sedan. He perked up as he saw me sitting on the bench and motioned enthusiastically for me to come over. I hesitated but stood up and walked over to him.
"Ms. Randall I presume? I'm your driver, Lee Sungho! I was sent by BigHit. Please, make yourself comfortable," he announced rather cheerily as he opened the back door for me.
I bit my lip and nodded at him. He seemed legit and if I wound up getting murdered then more's the better for everyone, I supposed.
I slid in and buckled my seatbelt as he jogged around the other side of the car to the driver's seat. He settled in, snapping his own seatbelt around him before quickly pulling away from the curb. Not wanting to chitchat, I turned my head and stared out the window as he drove us. I didn't even want to think, I just wanted to disassociate. But no matter how tired I was, my mind always found a way to kick into overdrive.
I pulled my phone out of my bag, looking for a distraction, and sighed when I saw the low battery notification. I hoped Tae had a charger that would fit my phone. My brow furrowed as I saw several missed messages from Lyle and even a few from Penny. It seemed like they weren't aware of what had happened. Most of their messages were about work or included funny memes.
I didn't know whether to be worried or relieved that no one had tried to look for me all this time. Was I really that much of a hermit? I didn't know if I should tell them anything about Yoongi, so I responded with some emojis and mentioned that I was feeling ill so I might miss some work this week.
