Song: Clouds by TRACES
I breathed in the bitterly cold air as I stepped out of Ms. Song's office, not phased by the frigid temperature. In fact, I relished the numbness it caused in my cheeks. I was intimately familiar with the feeling and it gave me a strange sense of peace.
I pulled out my phone and sent a text to Lyle and Penny, asking if they could meet up at our favorite cafe. I didn't feel like going back to the dorm just yet. I had to make sure my emotions were in check before I faced Yoongi. I was banking on the fact that he would still be tiptoeing around me, and so he probably wouldn't say anything if he felt my sadness, but on the off chance that he would, I wanted to be prepared.
After both of them had replied with an affirmative, I ordered an uber and hopped in the backseat when it arrived.
As I traveled down the busy streets, I stared idly at the passing city, and wondered how many other soulmates were wandering around Seoul. Were their lives as complicated as mine?
Twenty minutes later, I was seated at a corner table at a quaint little cafe waiting for my wayward friends. I took a sip from my chai latte and felt myself begin to relax. I closed my eyes and imagined a large, wooden box. In that box, I placed all of my most painful memories and closed the lid. I then imagined a large hole in the earth, much like a cemetery plot. There, I tossed the box in and shoveled dirt over it until it was completely buried. And then I walked away.
I opened my eyes and sighed, feeling marginally better. A few moments later, Penny came sauntering through the door. She paused and gave the interior a dismissive once over before her eyes fell on me. She then tossed her hair back and made her way to my table, removing her coat and taking a seat. She was wearing an all black outfit, simple jeans and turtleneck, her long dark hair swinging around her shoulders freely.
(Penny has Han So Hee vibes)
I gave her a small smile in greeting and sipped my drink. She narrowed her eyes at me and tapped one long, blood red fingernail on the table.
"What's wrong?" she demanded, her mahogany eyes boring into mine.
I pursed my lips. "What makes you think something is wrong?"
Penny scoffed. "You should go to the bathroom and look in the mirror, Sab. You look like you've seen a ghost."
I frowned down at the table. "I guess I kind of have...."
She leaned forward, about to interrogate me but she was interrupted when Lyle blew into the cafe and strode up to our table. He had on a knee length camel coat and coal slacks, his blonde hair slicked back off of forehead.
