A/N I have barely started writing this, but I bet it's gonna be a long one, oops

The first thing you noticed when stepping foot into the compound was that everything was white. White walls, white floors, white curtains.
Here and there were some specks of color, like the black railing leading up the stairs, or the the paintings on the walls, the doors. But for some reason all you could see was white, white, white.

"This leads to the second floor, the chambers, or rather apartments are up there. Down here we have the kitchen, that way is the medic room and the gym, and this way is a lounge room," the guy with the dirty blond hair explained to you. You think his name was Steve, but you weren't sure.

"I bet this is all a lot, so why don't you get settled in first?" He said, mentioning up the stairs. "I could show you your quarters," he smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. You quickly looked away, not wanting to read him. But if that is what you were trained to do your whole life, it was indeed hard to not be doing it.

"That would be great," you spoke, but your voice sounded foreign, harsh and hoarse.

"Y/N.." You heard someone call gently from the upstairs. The second floor was rather open in the entrance hall so that you were able to look up onto the balcony-like second floor. "I-"

"Nat.." You mumbled. You had spend some time with Natasha when you both were part of the widows. But unlike her, you weren't able to get out as fast. You knew that she was part of the Avengers, you knew that you would be living together, but meeting her right now was way to much to handle. Your mind was being flooded with memories of you two in the Red Room, training together, spending time together, getting punished together.

The guy next to you must have realized that you were beginning to get even more uncomfortable as he excused you two and told Natasha that he was going to show you your room. You were thankful to get out of the situation, although you knew that Natasha wanted to talk to you. Making your way upstairs, the guy shielded you from coming to close to the ex widow and gently pushed you into the right direction. You dared to take another look at Nat though, after you walked some steps away from her. Unlike in the past, where her face was always unreadable, showing no emotion, she now portrayed the way she was feeling freely: empathy, hurt, sorrow.

"So this is your loft, you have your own bathroom and bedroom. Well now that I said that, the word loft may be a little overestimated, but you can use the kitchen and gym downstairs freely of course," the guy from before rambled a little, clearly shaken up by the encounter in the hall.

"Thank you.." You started.

"Steve," he said and smiled.

"Right. Thank you, Steve." You returned the smile.

"I'm going to let you get comfortable now, I'll be downstairs, if you need anything." Steve smiled again and begun to walk towards the door. Before he left, he turned back towards you. "I know this is hard for you, I can only imagine what you went through, but just know that you are very welcome here. We kinda have a thing for outcasts," Steve laughed a little. "The team is also downstairs, so if you're up for meeting them, come down when you're ready." Steve was being very kind and it was making you feel a little unsure, not knowing how to handle this all.

Walking out the door, Steve turned towards you one more time, "I'm happy you're here, we all are," he said, before leaving and closing the door behind him, giving you space.

You didn't know how much time passed, but after checking out every inch of your new living space (for bugs or traps or literally anything), you sat down on the floor, in front of the floor to ceiling window and stared out of it.
