Chapter Twenty

Third Person's Point of View

The footsteps ran through the hallways, fast and panting as if it were an emergency. Perhaps, because it was.

It stopped in front of two giant doors decorated in golden embers of coal, glancing at the guards on each side of it, hesitating before knuckles hidden in a dark, caramel skin knocked on it.

The creature, if it could be called that, gently gripped on the door handle, pressing it down to open the door and slowly pushing it open, entering shortly after.

Sucking in a deep breath, he walked inside the throne room, ceilings as high as the eyes could travel to, and there, in between two pillars that seemed a bit too far apart, rested the throne of the King and Queen of hell, sitting on the seats, the mighty beings themselves; Hades and Persephone.

"Speak," A deep, rusty yet smooth voice erupted among the torturous silence of the room, the royal man's eyes cold and hard on the creature that had interrupted his time with his wife.

"Your Highness," The creature, suddenly feeling more out of breath than before, panted. "A problem has risen on the shore of Acheron and Styx."

The King lifted a single eyebrow, urging the creature to continue. "The descendant of the Royal Family of the pack of the Moon Goddess, Her Royal Majesty, Princess Dolores Miller has found her way down, despite being alive, and is throwing a tantrum to pass Acheron and Styx in an attempt to revive her, what we believe, lover."

Persephone sighed. "I am growing tired of the Millers and their entitled attitude." She leaned back on her throne. "Tell her to return to the land of the living."

"We've tried, milady." The creature bowed his head, his dark wings shuddering under the gaze of his master and mistress. "B-But she has refused to listen, and has transformed into her... animalistic form."

Huffing in irritation, Persephone stood up, turning to her husband. "Do whatever you will, but I don't want a living being on these lands, especially when she doesn't belong." Clenching her fists, she walked past the creature, whose wings had long shrunk due to fear, and walked out of the throne room, closing the giant gates with a loud thud.

Hades moved his gaze from his wife to the creature again, sighing and nodding. "Give her whatever she wants, just get her out of these lands before your Queen gets upset." He paused, "I'm sure none of you want to see her wrath."

Diana sat on the dried, muddy pavement on the shore of Acheron, her chin calmly pressed against the ground, looking in the distance past Charon and his boat, a sense of yearning voicing from her eyes.

"Lady Miller?" A young voice called, grabbing her attention almost as soon as the words left his mouth. "King Hades has agreed to let you pass Acheron and Styx to retrieve your... lover."

Humming in contentment, Diana stood up on all fours, eyeing Charon with a sense of victory while the creature in question simply kept his gaze fixated on the ground, as if unmoving stars in the horizon so far above reach.

Glancing at the dark-winged creature that lead her to the underworld, momentarily feeling a sense of guilt at his torn feathers, she climbed on top of Charon's boat, followed by the young man who was sent by Hades to bring her to him.

Gliding against the murky waters of Styx, she finally reached the other side of the rivers, jumping off the boat as if she'd been planning it.

Letting the young creature lead her to Hades' abode, she couldn't help but be amused by the lavish display of dark golden embers all around her.

Such a show-off.

Finally reaching the giant gates of the throne room, her eyes quickly found the two thrones on the far-edged center of the room as soon as the gates were pushed open. One throne was empty, one she presumed to be off the Queen's. The other was occupied by a large man, looking rather bored as a servant brushed his long, dark hair, not seeming to fear the power of the man before him.

As soon as the King noticed Diana's presence, his eyes seemed to spark a hint of amusement. A kind she wasn't used to seeing.

"Welcome, Young Princess." A rather calm, and milky smooth voice erupted from his mouth, as he stood up, completely thoughtless of the servant that was brushing his hair. "I've been expecting you."

When he received no response from the stubborn wolf, he let out a sigh. "Could you perhaps change back into your human form, my dear? Let's have a proper conversation."

Now, Dolores and Diana were both known to never let anybody tell them what to do.

But both knew better than to disobey the King of the Dead.

Standing on two legs, Diana faded into flesh once more, Dolores' naked form left to be presented to the room with the King and guards, all men.

Almost immediately, a blanket flew towards the woman, wrapping around her as a shield from all the men's prying eyes.

"I'd expect you to at least know she won't have any clothes on when she transforms back, Hades." The Queen's voice erupted from the gates as she entered the room. "I came to tell you that I'll be going to pay my mother a visit in a few minutes, but it seems that I'll be staying until the princess is safely back to the mortal world."

"As you wish," Hades sighed as he watched his wife climb the stairs and sit on her throne.

"I know why you're here, Dolores." Persephone addressed her directly. "I've known you for a while."

"Have you been spying on me, Your Highness?" Dolores lifted an eyebrow.

"Whatever you wish to believe, you may." She rolled her eyes, "Now, I believe you're here to retrieve the soul of your lover?"

"Yes, that is correct." Dolores nodded, walking closer to the Queen, just as she gestured from her hands.

"It's interesting to see how history repeats itself," The Queen laughed. "I'll be honest, I thought you had a change of heart and came for your parents. You know, after the catastrophe."

"My parents weren't my fault." She clenched her fists.

"Oh, I know." Persephone smiled. "I know what happened."

"Yet, you suspected it was my doing?"

"Look how I managed to get you defensive, Dolores." She smirked. "I've known you, princess."

"That night-"

"That night the minister removed the breaks from my parent's car, and Denver saw," Dolores stated. "He didn't say anything."

"Denver was on the rooftop when he saw the minister." Persephone eyed her. "He didn't say anything, because he saw you staring at the minister from behind a tree."

The Princess knew the Minister removed the breaks long before the Prince, didn't she?

"You knew everything, Dolores." Her voice turned into a whisper. "You knew Denver was protecting you."

"The Princess should not know this."

"This is all your fault!"

"You heard every rumor that circled the palace,"

"One of the Millers saw the Minister remove the breaks from the Alpha and Luna's car."

"Young Master knew that his parents were in danger, he chose to stay quiet."

"Of course, you heard them all, you made it seem like your brother was guilty."

"Princess Dolores was at archery practice."

"Deep down, we both know you're not here for your lover's soul," Persephone concluded. "But, you're not guilty enough to be here for your parents either."

Dolores clenched her fists, pressing her lips together as she felt Hades' eyes stare at her with the same amused glint he had when she entered the room.

"Why are you here, Princess Dolores?"
