LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA OCTOBER 5TH, 2019 3:01 A.M.
"OH MY GOD!" Cassie gasped awake in a cold sweat, her body felt hot and her heart was thumping in her ears. Still disoriented, she removed the blanket from her sweaty body and stumbled into the bathroom. Her eyes were red, and stained with tears running down the dark circles under her eyes. To put it nicely, she looked terrible. Her bonnet was somewhere in her bed, long gone from her braids which were a frizzy mess from the lack of care. Her skin didn't have its natural glow, it looked dull.
Everyone was still recovering from the effects of the tsunami and all the damage it caused. Each night when Cassie tried to get some sleep, she'd always return to that night, only instances were always different.
One night she lost Chris.
The next was Buck.
Tonight was Cameron.
And all she could do was watch helplessly.
Not even bothering to attempt to get some rest, she decides to start off her morning at three a.m. with some coffee and Tylenol. The coffee to wake her up, and the Tylenol to soothe her recurring migraine that she had been having on and off all week long.
"I'm guessing you couldn't sleep either." Buck stumbles into the kitchen shirtless and disoriented from the lack of sleep. "Nope." Cassie sips her coffee quietly, while Buck makes whatever he was attempting to make on the other side of the kitchen. "Who was it this time?"
"Cam you?"
"Christopher." Buck sighed taking a sip of his concoction before cringing at the taste. "Yep that'll keep me up for a while."
"What even is that? Cassie stared at the brown liquid in the glass.
"I read online that if you mix lemon, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, black pepper, water, and raw honey, with a mix of wheatgrass powder, it'll wake you up in the morning." Buck explained before taking another sip out of curiosity, as if the first one didn't teach him a lesson. "Although I think I read it wrong."
"Ew why are you drinking that if it's so disgusting?" Cassie chuckled.
"I can't stop." Buck shrugged determinedly, while taking a deep breath before chugging the rest of the liquid down. "I've got an early day ahead of me."
"Oh that's right you're the new fire marshall, how could I forget?" Cassie rolls her eyes playfully, as Buck had been talking nonstop about being able to tell everyone at the 118 what to do for a day. "It's not like you haven't been talking about it non stop for the past two days."
