All this time I was wasting
Hoping you would come around
I've been giving out chances every time
And all you do is let me down
And it's taking me this long
Baby but I figured you out
And you're thinking we'll be fine again
But not this time around

"This is interesting." Fred spoke, smirking at me as he hoped into my truck.

I rolled my eyes. It was honestly too early for his snide comments and I wasn't in the mood.

"Where's Dean? We're going to be late." I mumbled.

Fred looked amused. He could probably tell I was upset about something.

"Inside, chatting up my mum, as usual." He responded.

He looked around the car. "So... Maya isn't here today? Or are you messing with Cindy now?"

I turned to glare at him.

He raised his hands. "I'm honestly just asking. You've been full of surprises lately."

He spoke and I could hear the humour in his voice.

I didn't say anything. I just looked ahead and clenched my jaw.

He snuck a look at me. "You doing it in your shed with Cindy now?"

I turned to look at him in confusion. "What-"

"Oh I figured it out with how weird you were acting on Saturday. Oh and by the way, next time, do a better job at telling her where to park her car."

I hadn't even realised anyone would notice Cindy's car. We had gotten so good at sneaking around, we never made such mistakes.

"Did you tell Sandy?" I asked. I knew Sandy didn't like the popular crowd much but she would still yell my ears off if she thought I was cheating on someone.

"Nah man, that's your business, I'm just trying to figure out what your end game is." He spoke.

I rolled my eyes.

"What are you talking about?"

He turned so that he was facing me. "Maya is clearly not your type. You don't deal with girls like her, especially not girls under Cassie Fitzgerald's thumb."

"Maya's not -"

"Let me finish." He continued, raising a finger. "Cindy has always been more your speed and she's clearly the one you actually want. So I don't know man, what's the plan? Is this just for fun?"

I gripped the steering wheel tighter.

None of this was for 'fun'. All I had wanted to do was make Cindy jealous and get her back. But after yesterday, I was honestly wondering if it was even worth it.

Cindy came to me. Not Golden boy.

We even hang out yesterday at her father's garage which is closed on Sundays so we had our privacy. It was nice being with her again. I honestly hadn't realised just how much I had missed her. We just talked about her family and stuff but still, I liked it.

"It's none of your business, okay?" I told Fred. "Just keep your mouth shut."

Before Fred could say anything else, the back door of the truck swung open and Dean hopped in carrying a clear lunchbox.

"Your mum gave me cookies." He grinned at Fred.

Fred rolled his eyes.

I started the drive to school all the while feeling giddy about seeing Cindy.
