Zack drove Eddie and I home, to Eddie's great dismay. He kept asking why we weren't riding with Daniel and I honestly couldn't tell him anything except that Daniel was busy.

I hadn't even spoken to Daniel today. I had been avoiding him like the plague. In my head, I had concocted this perfect scenario where I would bump into him looking all cool - perhaps there would be a fan from God knows where, perfectly positioned so that my hair would be blowing back like I was in a movie.

Daniel would be so star struck and tongue tied that he would fall down on his knees and beg for me to take him back right there and then.

But I had a reality check and chances were that I would be the one who dropped to my knees and begged for him to take me back. Just catching a glimpse of him in the hallway today made all the memories come rushing back.

What went wrong? I honestly thought we had something special.

"Maya!" I heard Eddie yell. He was already out of Zack's truck, holding the back door open with his brows raised expectantly. "Are you coming or what?"

I looked towards my house then I turned to look at Zack who was also staring at me.

"I'll be there in a few minutes, I just need to talk to Zack for a bit, okay?"

Eddie looked at Zack then back at me. "Fine but I'm telling dad you're alone with a boy who isn't Daniel." He spoke before quickly turning and running off.

"You little -"

He was already gone.

I groaned and strangled the air with my hands.

"Your dad still has a gun collection, doesn't he?" Zack asked.

I nodded.

He turned the keys in the ignition. "We're going to my house where I'll be safe."

I wanted to tell him that he wasn't necessarily 'safe' unless he had bulletproof windows.

Zack drove the short distance to his house before getting out. I followed suit.

Zack's house was slightly smaller than ours and so was the yard. Actually, it was the smallest in the whole neighbourhood. It was almost like the house was hastily put up as an afterthought. But I liked it. It had always been my favourite place to hang out as a kid because it was the most whimsical.

Ms Andrews had different flowers all over the yard and when I was lucky, she would give me some to place in my hair. She even taught me to make flower crowns. I used to make them all the time, for her, Eddie, my dad, my mother... and even Zack but he would never wear them unless his mother made him. There was also a swing set out back and a shed that had been Zack's and my 'club house'. Ms Andrews helped us paint it different colours and she even helped us make our own club house flag. It wasn't anything special, she just sewed on Zack's and my initials on it.

There were no flowers anymore though, most of them had died out over the years, Ms Andrews didn't garden as much after Zack's dad died.

"Maya." Zack spoke impatiently. He was already at the front door holding it open.

I quickly rushed after him and walked through the door.

Zack shut it behind him and started heading up the stairs.

Well of course I'll just follow you without a word, Zachary.

I still knew the house well enough to know that he was leading us to his room. When he opened the door I looked around the once familiar room. I mean he was still the messiest person I knew, that much hadn't changed.
