I felt like everyone was staring. Staring and whispering behind my back.It was no secret that my little stunt with Zack had attracted some attention. People were probably wondering why I was with Zack and not Daniel.
Honestly, I was too.
A part of me wondered if I shouldn't have gone along with this plan and instead tried to just talk to Daniel. Maybe we could resolve whatever had gone wrong during the summer. Maybe we could fix it and go back to what we were.
I liked what we were.
"Maya!" I heard a familiar voice call my name. I turned around to see Cassie walking towards me. She looked as stylish as she usually did in a silk cami, dark skinny jeans matched with an army green bomber jacket and blue and white floral wedges.
I stopped in my tracks. "Hey gorgeous."
She looked behind her then looked back at me. She let out a dramatic gasp and placed her hand on her chest.
"Who, me?"
I rolled my eyes.
She flipped her hair before strutting towards me.
That was Cassie, she didn't even care that people had stopped to stare at her theatrics.
She stopped beside me and studied my outfit head to toe. "And here I was thinking I would be the hottest babe in school."
I pulled my jacket closer around my body, suddenly feeling self conscious.
I wanted to run and cower behind Zack. At least he intimidated people, making them too scared to stare at me."Girl, have you looked in the mirror lately? You look hot." Cassie told me. "And I'm definitely not the only one who thinks so." She spoke in a sing song voice.
I grabbed her arm, stopping us in our tracks. "Spill." I ordered.
She gave me one of her mischievous Cassie smiles.
"Well, I overheard a little red headed birdie on the phone with her very angry friend whose newly stolen boyfriend - gag - couldn't keep his eyes off you."I knew the little red headed birdie must have been Emma. And the angry friend was of course the traitor herself.
I couldn't even try to hide my satisfied smile.
"This plan is already beginning to work." Cassie said.
I honestly didn't think we would get this far without someone seeing through our charade but look at us! Something was finally going right in Stevens life!
I heard the bell ring. Cassie hooked her arm around mine.
"Come on, Ms Jenkins told my mother that if I'm late to her class this semester, she'll give me detention until we graduate." Cassie spoke with a roll of her eyes.
I laughed. Cassie was the only straight A student I knew who was always late to class.
We chatted about one of our favourite shows, 'Get that Money!', as we walked to class.
It was basically a reality Tv show about twenty contestants who were thrown into a house, their job? To do anything to Get that Money! There were crazy challenges each episode, each more bizarre than the last. Honestly, I was hooked.
"Girl, we both know Claire wasn't going to eat that roach. She is definitely getting voted off next." Cassie spoke.
I gasped. "Do not sleep on Claire! I know my girl will pull through in the next challenge."
"Claire shmaire, Let's talk about that dream boat, Damien." She said.
We both stopped and sighed.
