"Hey Cass?" I called as I set down the dress I was supposed to be changing into.
"Yeah?" Cassie asked absent-mindedly.
She was sitting at the desk in my room getting a head start on our algebra homework.
I really pitied the people who assumed Cassie was some black Barbie who only cared about makeup and clothes. I mean sure my girl was always popping but there was so much more to her as well.
"Did you know about Ryan and Keisha?" I asked.
Cassie looked up from her homework.
"The girl from the party with the cute boots?"
I thought about the knee high boots Keisha had indeed been wearing.
"Yeah, that would be her."
"I mean yeah, she's been all over Ry since he got back last summer. Girl's got it bad."
I furrowed my brows and walked up to her.
"Ryan said it was casual." I told her.
Cassie tapped her chest with her pen lazily. "I guess it is then. I mean, he hasn't said anything about them being exclusive."
I was shocked by Cassie's casual tone.
"But you just said she's got it bad." I spoke not meaning to sound so accusatory but not being able to help it.
"Geesh Maya, I mean yeah... Keisha has always talked about how much she has the hots for Ryan. Why'd you think she kept showing up at Cody's parties and bugging him to set them up?"
I didn't know that. Or maybe I just hadn't noticed?
Lots of people from her school came to Cody's parties because they were Cody's friends as well.
"Why do you even care so much?" Cassie asked me curiously.
"Because he didn't tell me." I spoke.
I mean to be fair we hadn't really talked in a while but seeing a new girl was something you told your friends, right?
"He hasn't told anyone." Cassie shrugged. "I mean the guys might know but you know that Cody is a pretty private guy, he doesn't go around broadcasting his business to everyone."
"Since when are we everyone?" I asked.
Our friend group was tight knit. Such important details were usually shared.
"If it's bugging you so much, why don't you ask him?" Cassie asked, spinning back around to continue her work.
I walked away from her back to my bed. I had asked him about it and he had given me the answers. Why was I looking for more?
I picked up my phone remembering that Elena had told me to call her when I had the chance.
I took a picture of my(Cassie's) outfit choice for the arena hoping to get her input as well even though I had already decided it was okay.
I heard a knock at the door.
Cassie looked up. "That better be him."
"Come in!" I called out.
Zack walked in, hands in a black leather jacket.
"Okay Andrews! You clean up well." Cassie called, eying Zack up and down.
I couldn't help but appreciate how good he looked as well. He had on a black leather jacket over a white tee paired with black jeans and black Nike sneakers.
All because I had sent him a text saying we had to go on a 'date' this afternoon.
I applauded the commitment.
