An upbeat pop song was playing as Maya and I walked into TimeZone Arcade.
The owners had seemed to want to go with the old fashioned arcade theme I guess. The place was still very much like a modern gaming centre. I saw a bunch of kids our age and younger crowding the gaming seats.
But there were also some pretty old school games around.
There was a pool table in the back and a curved hallway that indicated it led to the bowling alley. The place seemed not too shabby.
I watched as Maya looked around, eyeing all the different games, probably wondering which ones she'd get to try. It's good to see that see hadn't lost that annoying childlike sense of wander that she had always had.
"Where is everyone?" I asked wondering where we would be meeting up.
Maya looked at her phone.
"Georgie says they're in a booth in the back." She looked around and stopped when she was facing the eating area.
"Over there." Maya spoke.
I looked in the direction and spotted Georgia's hair and the back of Ryan's head. Golden boy and Cindy were tucked into the booth as well. He casually had his arm slung over hers.
A pang of hurt shot through my chest at the sight.
Maya started walking in the direction but I stopped her by holding onto her arm.
She looked at me in confusion.
"We're playing a role, remember?" I told her.
I moved forward and slipped my hand in hers.
I felt Maya stiffen.
"Hey, relax, it's just for show." I reassured her.
And to show Cindy that I was just fine without her.
Maya nodded.
"Uhm, sure."
I didn't want to make Maya uncomfortable but I guess she was okay with it because her grip tightened in mine and she led the way to the booth.
"Oh hey! You guys are finally here." Georgia spoke in excitement. She had a huge smile on her face.
Cindy looked up at me. For a minute I saw a frown on her face, her eyes dipped to where Maya's and my hands were interlinked.
"Sorry. We were hanging out at Maya's and... uh, lost track of time." I spoke.
My tone was suggestive just as I had wanted it to be.
I felt Maya squeeze me hand and I could just imagine her face heating up. Perfect.
I slid into the booth opposite Georgia, her man friend, Golden boy and Cindy, besides Ryan and his girl friend.
"Well you're late, we were about to start without you." Cindy spoke up.
I detected a hint of irritation in her voice and I knew I was getting to her.
"Don't be silly, we were actually just getting to know each other better." Georgia spoke.
She was clearly giddy and excited. Georgia was a naturally bubbly person but it was clear that there was more to it today.
"Guys, this is Seth. I don't think you've met."
She spoke, smiling up at the dark haired guy. He had bronze skin and one pierced ear.
"T'sup." The guy nodded in our direction.
He seemed vaguely familiar. I had probably seen him at one of Cody's parties.
