It's tearing me apart
She's slipping away (I'm slipping away)
Am I just hanging on to all the words she used to say?
The pictures on her phone (the pictures on my phone)
~I know what you did last summerLunch couldn't come soon enough.
I didn't share all my classes with Maya but surely I would see her at lunch.
"Sandy said she'd come." Dean spoke from behind me.
I picked out a chicken mayo sandwich and placed it on my plate.
All the while I was looking around hoping to spot Maya.
"What does that have to do with me?" Fred asked, also behind me.
"Well if Sandy is coming, you're coming, right?"
"To your geek fest? Hell no." Fred responded.
I felt someone bump into me.
I turned around and saw Fred.
"Where's your head at, man?" He asked in annoyance.
I ignored him and continued my search.
I spotted a pristine and polished girl walking towards one of the centre tables with a lunch bag in hand.
Cassandra Fitzgerald.
She was alone, I noticed. Probably the first in her little squad to get to the table.
Without thinking, I started walking towards her.
"Where are you going?" I heard Fred call after me but I ignored him.
Eyes looked up to follow me as I headed to the centre table, determination on my face.
Of course there were no rules on where you should sit in such a public school.
But it was a well known fact that Cassie and her friends usually took the centre table, which was one of the biggest.
I placed my tray in front of Cassie.
She had been reading a novel. She peeked up from it, the minute she saw me, her face morphed into one of disgust.
"Andrews?" She asked in shock.
No, Shakira.
Of course I tried not to be seen anywhere in public with Cassie.
We were oil and water. We didn't mix.
She set her book down slowly.
"What are you doing?" She asked slowly eyeing my tray like it was detestable.
I sat down. Not because I had even planned on doing this.
God knows I could do without the stares I was openly getting from everyone. I could just imagine what Fred must be thinking.
Probably cursing me out. In Spanish.
