Tommy had a hard day. He didn't sell all his papers and Henry worked all day at Jacobis and Jojo spent all day with Mike so he spent the entire day alone. Barney wasn't home yet, and Tommy just wanted to hear how his day went so he can forget about his own. They are still new to their relationship, so Tommy hasn't really opened up much about the orphanage and all that, Barney knows that he's an orphan but he doesn't really know about Tommy's childhood or all the bullying he endured. But during all this time, there was one little thing that always comforted him during this time, he would have loved it to be parents or a friend but it was something completely different.

Tommy sat on his bed and reached his hand under the pillow to look for said thing, when he saw it wasn't there he looked under his bed, after a bit of sneezing from dust, he found it. It was a small, pocket-sized paper booklet of a story book he had when he was little. He never had any toys growing up, and this was warn down and he never learned how to read, but he loved the pictures in it. When he was little, it comforted him, the pictures of a cute family of bears let him imagine what it would be like to be in a happy family like that, living in a cottage all together, all happy. He brought his pillow to the corner of his bed, and sat up against it to start reading when he heard a cute voice ask, "What have you got there, Tommy?" Barney asked with a smile, sitting beside him.
"Oh it's a book, from when I was little," Tommy explained, alittle embarrassed, "I can't really read it, but, I used the think the pictures were comforting."
"Ah-" Barney took a look at the book, "Goldilock and the three bears." He smiled, but Tommy didn't really understand.
"Pardon?"
"That's the name of your story, Goldilocks and the three bears." Barney explained tucking some hair behind Tommy's ear.
"Oh," Tommy smiled, and pointed to the blonde haired girl on his book, "Is she Goldilocks?"
"I would think so."
Tommy smiled, "I loved her blonde hair because I used to have blonde hair too when I was a kid, now its closer to brown."
"I still think it's blonde, maybe a very dark blonde, but definitely not brown." Barney shrugged, "So you've never read this?"
"Oh no, I can't read..." Tommy said.
Barney looked at him, "You want me to read it to you?"
Tommy chuckled, "Nono, its fine."
"I can if you want."
"It's fine really." Tommy whispered, alittle sadly.
"Are you OK?"
"It's just..." Tommy looked at him, "What if the story is not what I expected?"
Barney was alittle shocked, but smiled nonetheless, "Well, then you'll have 2 stories, the one you see and the one you've listened to."
That made Tommy's heart leap, he instantly nodded, "You wouldn't mind reading it?"
"Not at all, I'm a very strong reader." Barney said confidently, taking the small booklet. Tommy made some space for Barney on his pillow, they snuggle up close as Barney starts:

"Once upon a time, there was a family of three bears that lived in a cozy cottage in the woods. Mama Bear, Papa Bear, and Baby Bear lived together in harmony, each one having their own favorite things in the house.

One day, while the bears were away, a curious little girl named Goldilocks stumbled upon their cottage. She knocked on the door, but no one answered, so she decided to go inside to explore.

Goldilocks saw three bowls of porridge on the table and decided to taste them. She tasted the first bowl of porridge, which belonged to Papa Bear, but it was too hot. The second bowl of porridge, which belonged to Mama Bear, was too cold. However, the third bowl of porridge, which belonged to Baby Bear, was just right, and she ate it all up.

After eating the porridge, Goldilocks saw three chairs in the living room. She sat on the first chair, which belonged to Papa Bear, but it was too hard. The second chair, which belonged to Mama Bear, was too soft. However, the third chair, which belonged to Baby Bear, was just right. But tragically, Goldilocks broke the chair because it was too small for her.

Finally, Goldilocks went upstairs and saw three beds. She lay down on the first bed, which belonged to Papa Bear, but it was too hard. The second bed, which belonged to Mama Bear, was too soft. However, the third bed, which belonged to Baby Bear, was just right, and she fell asleep.

When the bears returned home, they noticed that someone had been in their cottage. They saw the broken chair and noticed that their porridge had been eaten. When they went upstairs, they found Goldilocks sleeping in Baby Bear's bed.

Goldilocks woke up and was frightened to see the bears, but the bears were kind and helped Goldilocks find her way home, offering to invite her and her family over if they ever wanted porridge again, the end.."

Tommy had his head on Barney's lap as he softly played with his hair as he read. Tommy tiredly looked at his boyfriend, alittle jokingly asked,"Can you read it again?"
Barney laughed alittle, "Another time maybe."
Tommy laughed with him,"You're such a good reader, honestly."
"Thank you, so, was the story what you expected?"
"Not really, it's crazy that I spent all these years imagining a story completely different."
"But this story is still really nice, right?"
Tommy smiled and closed his eyes, "Yes, definitely, you know what I like about that story, about the ending?"
"What did you like?"
"I like that, even though she broke into their house and broke all their stuff, they didn't get angry with her."
"No, that's very unexpected from bears, I would know, I used to see some ride bicycles."
"Huh?" Tommy was confused, but Barney just shrugged in response so Tommy continued,"I wish people shared that kindness with me too when I was little."
"People weren't kind to you at the orphanage?"
"I mean... its nothing really, its just kids at the orphanage would get angry at me alot for the smallest things." Tommy mumbled.
"Oh yeah?" Barney was alittle curious.
"Yeh...for example it would get really cold at night so the orphanage lady offered extra blankets, when I asked if i could have one, all the kids got angry with me because they said I didn't deserve it, they would take away my blanket, pillow, food or anything that was mine when the workers weren't around. And nobody ever helped me because I didn't really have any friends, and they would hurt me."
That story broke Barney's heart, he's never had Tommy open up like that before, "How would they hurt you?"
Tommy shrugged, "They liked kicking me, tripping me over and pushing me. That's why I left."
"Tommy..." Barney whispered, sympathetically, "I'm so sorry."
"It's ok," Tommy sighed, "I'm safe and happy now. And I'm trying my best not to get people to be mad at me."
"You'd never hurt anyone." Barney smiled, laying down beside his boyfriend.
Tommy nodded before thinking, "Would you ever get mad at me?"
"Maybe one day, but I know I know you'd never try and hurt me so I'm not worried."
Tommy looked at him, alittle scared to ask the next question, "Would you break up with me?"
Barney was alittle taken aback, not knowing how to answer, "Why would I break up with you?"
Tommy shrugged, "I'm not sure, but... its something I've been afraid of."
"Oh, Tommy, why?" Barney asked, worried.
"Because you're, like, amazing, confident and talented, you can have anyone and you chose to be with me...and i feel like it's just a matter of time until you change your mind."
Barney frowned, "Tommy, there is no way you actually think I'd not want to go out with you."
"What do you mean?"
"Are you kidding?" Barney laughed, "Tommy, Angel, I've never met someone who gets me as much as you, you listen and you're sweet and handsome. I can tell you like being around me, alot of people don't, and if we broke up I'd feel so alone."
"You have lots of friends."
Barney cupped Tommy's cheek with one hand, "I could be around a million people and I'd still feel lonely if I wasn't with you." Barney teared up and Tommy instantly felt bad, "Sorry- I didn't mean to make you cry-"
"It's ok, I like crying." Barney smiled, "I'm crying because I'm happy, not because I'm sad."
"Oh," Tommy blushed and smiled, "I'm happy too."
Barney giggled, "You wanna know why I'm happy?"
"Why?"
"Because I know we'll be ok."
Tommy blushed, in that moment he knew he didn't need a family of bears, he was already living his fairytale.
