Canon era

Buttons came back to his house, he brought Elmer with him, he thought they could spend time together after his chores. Elmer was glad to help Buttons, he hasn't been feeling well lately and he needed a little support.

Arriving at the broken door of the small apartment, where buttons family lived, his parents werent home, so he looked for his keys. He fumbled around in his pockets for a moment, when he accidentally dropped the keys. He face palmed with both hands and sighed in embarrassment. He was exhausted. Elmer smiled and picked the keys up and gave them to Buttons, "Here you go!" He said, trying to act cheerfully ti make Buttons cheer up. But Buttons looked at him and took the keys, "Thanks babe..." he smiled tiredly. Opening the door, Buttons heard his 6 very loud siblings making a mess. The mess he had to clean. They came inside and the place was a mess. Button gasped and put his hands over his mouth. He looked around, he cant clean all that- he needed sleep...he hasn't slept in two days. He fiddled with his fingers. Elmer looked at him, Buttons looked scared, and stressed, he couldnt move. Elmer stroked his hair, "Are you ok?" Buttons looked down, "I'm so tired- I want to go to bed..."
"You can rest a little-"
"No- I have thing to do- thing need to be...to be done..." Buttons words got slower and sloppy,
"Benji?"
Buttons eyes shrunk and he looked up as he collapsed on the spot.

Elmer was quick to catch him, "Baby? Babe, are you ok?" Buttons didnt respond. Elmer looked at Buttons little brother, "Wheres his bed?" The boy showed Elmer a small room upstairs with a wooden bunk bed, that Buttons probably shared. The bed on the bottom was well done, so Elmer knew that was Buttons. He lay Buttons down, he knew he was probably not dead, but you can never know so he checked his pulse. When it was clear he was alive, he brought the thin blanket to Button's shoulders, before kissing his forehead.

Buttons woke up an hour later. He felt the warm comfort of his bed. His head hurt a bit, but he felt relieved, because he got to rest a little. He heared a knock and the door open, and saw his favourite boyfriend come in, "Oh hi, you're awake-"
Buttons smiled, sleepily, "Yeah, sorry, it's not the first time that has happened..."
"Oh..." Elmer sat on the floor in front of Buttons, and started placing soft kisses everywhere on his face. Buttons isnt the type to pull away, he embraces the touches and leads Elmer to his neck. Elmer decideds to spoon Buttons and kiss his neck from the back. The silence was the best bit. The comfort of eachother, the small light from the window. They lay together like this until Buttons realised, "Oh no-" he gasped, "I'm late on my chores-"
"-heyheyhey dont worry, I already did them." Elmer comforted,
"...you?...what...why?"
"Because...because I really like you and I hate the fact- you've got so much pressure on yourself."
"You didnt have to-"
"Its ok. I wanted to...your siblings also told me you havent eaten much."
"Yeh...I've given them all the food I could afford."
"Well, let's go to Jacobis, I'll buy you something."
"Nono- I'm ok...dont waste your money on me, and I have to stay here..."
"Then I'll go buy you something."
Buttons teared up, nobody has ever been so nice to him, "Thank you so much."
"You're hungry?"
"...I'm starving..." Buttons whispered sadly, he turned to look at Elmer with sad, pleading, "I'll pay back I promise...but could you get me something- it doesnt have to be much... I havent eaten in 2 days...please?"
Elmer nodded, eyes wide, and heart melting, "Of course, you should be more easy on yourself, Benji, I'll go and run off to the market." Elmer got up and left. Buttons smiled and sat up, he wrapped his arms around his starved stomach, he was so lucky.

Elmer came back a moment later, he brought Buttons a box of mini flapjacks. Buttons hasn't had something sweet in so long, he was flabbergasted. "You can have some-" he looked at Elmer,
"No thank you." His boyfriend responded with a kiss. Buttons insisted, it was Elmer's money, but Elmer insisted back.
"Thank you so much." Buttons hugged him. He took a bite of the honey flavoured treat, he smiled happily and once again looked at Elmer, "This is so good. Aw, thank you so much Elmer."
Elmer loved Buttons reaction, the way his cheeks went pink with happiness, the was he smiled and savored the treats. He must have been starving, and he was so glad he could have made Buttons alittle happier. Elmer opted kissing his forehead, as Buttons enjoyed his snack. He had about five then left some over. Buttons looked at Elmer, "You're too sweet," He breathed "You are so sweet, I love you so much."
Elmer smiled, "Dont bother paying me back, ok? Come on, let's get back to the lodging house."
Buttons smiled and nodded.

It's the start of winter, and it's getting pretty cold. Elmer shivered when they left, "I hate the cold." Buttons took his hands and warmed them up with his breath, and rubbing their hands together. Back at the lodging house, Buttons and Elmer got ready for bed. But Elmer was still cold. Buttons got the blanket from his bed and took it to Elmer's so they had 2 blankets to share. Buttons even snuggled close to him. "Do you think...one day...we could run away...and live together?" Buttons asked. It was quite and peaceful. Elmer smiled, "We can live in a little house, and I can use my maths to get a job, and I'll buy you so many pastries to enjoy."
"I wanna work to, I could be a tailor, make beautiful dresses."
"Youd be great at that."
Buttons smiled and thought for a second "Maybe...a small wedding?"
Elmer hugged Buttons tighter, "Of course, in a park."
"That's perfect!" Buttons giggled, "You can teach me polish."
"Yes, well, it's abit difficult-"
"I'll learn." Buttons yawned, "Are you warm?"
"Yeh, are you tired?"
"A little, but, the nap helped me, thanks for letting me sleep."
"You looked so tired, I'm glad you took a break."
"Thanks for caring about me Elmer."
"What do you mean thanks? Buttons I care for you without thinking about it. I love you Benji."
Buttons looked at his boyfriend "I love you too."
