Promises and Change

"Did you and Chishiya break up already?" Niragi mocked as he made his way towards Kagami. Most of his body was covered in horrific burns that strangely enough made Kagami want to cry. But other than the couple of burns on his neck and cheek, his face was pretty okay. But, judging by how he wore his shirt over part of it, she guessed that part of his face was also burned. The guilt she thought she had put behind her had snuck up on her again as she stared at Niragi wide eyed.

"You're alive..." She mused. Kagami had believed Niragi was alive after finding the piece of his shirt in the pharmacy, but seeing him in the flesh was totally different. Remembering that she still had the piece of his shirt tied around her wrist, Kagami quickly pulled her cardigan sleeve well over her hand so there was no way he could see it.

"Yep. I'm alive." Niragi said back, stopping a metre away from her. Kagami's eyes fell onto the multiple rolls of bandages that wrapped around his arms, legs and torso. "Your boyfriend really fucked me up. Where is he? I owe him for lighting me on fire." Niragi spat.

"Chishiya's...playing a different game. It seemed dangerous playing the game together." Kagami answered. She wasn't going to tell Niragi the entire conversation they had. Just enough to the answer the question. Niragi nodded,

"That's a shame. I'll have to find him after this." He muttered, his eyes filled with the same arrogance that she knew would never leave him.

"I see being set on fire and falling off a building hasn't changed you at all." Kagami said and Niragi smiled softly at her.

"You never gave me a chance." He replied and Kagami couldn't help but laugh.

"I gave you plenty of opportunities actually. Not my fault that you only wanted to change once you realized I was actually leaving you for good." Kagami shrugged. Niragi gave out a sigh and sat down on the ground in front of her.

"I'm trying. I really am. I keep my promises which is why I never promise things." He finally said after a long period of silence where the two of them just stared at each other.

Kagami still couldn't believe that she was looking at him. Never in a million years did she think she'd ever see Niragi again. She wasn't quite sure how to feel. She didn't hate him nor did she love him. She just felt empty.

"I can't believe you're here. Are you in pain?" Kagami breathed. Niragi stared up at her for moment before all the bravado and arrogance seemed to wash away.

"You have no idea." He said, wincing as he rubbed the burns that covered his arms.

Just as Niragi opened his mouth to speak once more, he began to heavily cough causing Kagami to move closer towards him. The coughing was so heavy that it caused Niragi to place one hand on his chest and the other on the ground to stabilize himself. Straight away, Kagami moved around him and pulled his hair back out of his face just as he coughed up quite a bit of blood. She didn't need to be a doctor to know that wasn't a good sign.

"I don't need your pity." Niragi muttered, spitting another mouthful of blood.

"It's not pity." Kagami replied. "Believe it or not, I don't want you to die, okay? Even if we aren't together anymore." She told him, letting go of Niragi's hair. Niragi took in a deep breath before he leaned back against Kagami's legs.

"That's funny considering you tried to kill me." He replied. Kagami said nothing for awhile as she turned around and sat down so that her back was pressed against his.

"Yeah, I know." She replied. "You kind of deserved it though."

"I know I did." Niragi said. "I wish you and Chishiya would have just killed me. This shit hurts so much." He mused and Kagami had to fight back tears. "But, I want you to know that I don't blame you and I'm not mad at you, okay? I don't want you to be scared of me anymore."
