-----------back to Kagami's POV------------
I wake with a start, my eyes snapping open to find I'm in a strange room. I immediately rush to the door. I know it will be locked but I have to try anyway. Sure enough, when I jerk the doorknob it doesn't even budge. I slam my fist against the thick metal surface in frustration. Then I hear Mori's voice speaking to me out of nowhere.
"Yeah, that's not going to work. Sorry sweetheart," he says teasingly. I turn around and around, raking my gaze across every part of my newfound enclosure. There's not a single window, so I can't tell if I'm above or below ground. Centered on the left wall is a plain bed with a clock nailed right above it. A small circle table with two chairs stands in the far right corner. Next to that, another door. And right above my head, I find a camera with a microphone. He's watching me.
"Where's Creed? What did you do to him?" I question, looking with cold eyes directly into the camera.
Mori's voice answers all too nonchalantly, "Relax. He's still alive. For now." I can practically see the annoying smirk spreading across his face right now. "It's nothing personal, dear. I just need your help getting an old friend of mine to come visit is all."
That's when it dawns on me. "If you're talking about Dazai, I wouldn't hold your breath. He won't come for me," I say, averting my eyes from the camera. The fight we got into yesterday still stings a little when I think about it.
"What's this? Trouble in paradise?" Mori mocks me.
I don't want to talk about this, so I change the subject. "Where does that other door go?" I ask.
"It's a bathroom of course," he answers.
"Let me guess, there's a camera in there too?" I say mockingly, with a roll of my eyes towards the camera.
"Come now, don't be like that Kagami," Mori feigns offense, "We might be villains, but we're not perverts."
I open the second door and poke my head in. There are no windows in here either, just a toilet and a sink, nothing else. At least they're considerate... I think begrudgingly. I go and lie back down on the bed, wondering what the hell I'm supposed to do now. After "the incident," I had asked Dazai to keep my gun, so that's not an option. This is the first time I regret that decision. After exactly four hours, I still have no idea how to get out of this one. How do I know it's been exactly four hours you might ask? Because the constant sound of this fucking clock has been ringing in my ears the whole time! I stand on top of the bed and rip the clock from the wall, throwing it aggressively to the ground. It shatters with a loud crash. Flopping back down on the bed, I try to slow my breathing and calm down. Usually, Creed would be the one to help me with that...
It takes a good while before I can even hear myself think again. That's when I notice another noise. There's this faint scratching and clicking coming from the walls. Rodents. I was so focused on the clock earlier, I hadn't noticed it before. I sit down on the floor facing the wall where the sound is coming from. I have my back to the camera as I lay my forehead against the rough surface. Hopefully, the camera just sees me looking dejected and frustrated. I rest my palm against the wall and as quietly as possible, I call upon my ability.
"Bīsutoteimā, sōgo ishiki!" I whisper urgently. I was right. The mouse inside the wall begins talking to me, clicking his teeth. I tap on the wall gently in response. I sit there tapping on the wall, having a whole conversation with the rodent. He tells me I am in fact underground. I'm on the basement floor of the mafia's headquarters. I tell him about Creed and ask if he can go find him for me, and he scurries away. That's when the door creaks open, making me jump. I whip around to see none other than Akutagawa standing in the doorway. He's holding what looks like a tray of food for me. I rush over to him.
"Akutagawa!" I exclaim, "I'm so glad it's you-" I'm cut off by the pain of him shoving the metal tray into my chest, stopping me from coming any closer. I push on anyway, "Akutagawa, please, you've gotta help me get out of here."
He looks at me with an icy expression saying, "Go to hell." And with that, he shuts the door in my face. I stand there completely stunned for several moments. His words cut like a knife through my heart. I thought we were friends... Did I do something wrong?
I walk over to the small table completely disheartened as I drop the tray down. I stare down at the plain sandwich, red apple, and bottle of water without a single urge to eat. Instead, I throw it as far as I can across the room, the food scattering everywhere. This time, there was no anger in my seemingly random destruction. It was actually all part of my plan. I make my way over to the bed and lie down. Then I begin to hum. I hum a song to all the creatures in range of hearing my voice, willing the vibrations to make my message known to them. Soon there's a line of little black dots trailing in from under my door. Insects. I guess that works. The bugs, too small for the camera to see, spread out across my room and devour the food mess I made earlier. While they snack on their reward, they fill me in on the comings and goings of the building by the vibrations of their little antenna rubbing together. Eventually, the lights shut off. I guess that means bedtime... I think to myself. I do my best to sleep that night, but every time I close my eyes all I see is the limp body of Creed. I worry nonstop about what they might be doing to him. My mind races all the way until morning when they finally turn the lights back on.
In the morning light, my tiny informants scatter and the door swings open. I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed that it's not Akutagawa this time. Instead, a small girl with dark hair and a black mask stands in the doorway. She looks about the same size and strength as me, so I take my chances and try to escape. We get into an intense fight, swinging and kicking and stepping over the wreckage I made in the room. I hold my own for a little while, but she soon bests me. Before I know it, she's got me pinned to the wall with a blade to my throat. She's good... I think as she ties me up. Once my wrists are rendered useless she silently slips a blindfold over my eyes and pushes me in front of her. Blindly, I'm led to another room and shoved into a cold metal chair to which I am then chained. When the blindfold is finally removed, the contents of this new room make my stomach churn. The blood-stained floor and sharp metal tools can only mean one thing- torture.
In comes Mori, donning a crisp white lab coat. He ties up his hair and slips on a pair of latex gloves with a loud snapping sound that makes my mouth go dry. He flashes an evil toothy grin in my direction. "It seems you were right. Dazai hasn't come for you, so we're just going to have to give him a little push..." Mori says in a low, foreboding voice. "It's nothing personal tho," he says that stupid little phrase once again.
